Very grateful for the anti-racism resources that were brought to my attention through the recent AFP Canada Leadership Retreat. My involvement with AFP Edmonton & Area Chapter has been a wellspring of resources for learning and growing both professionally and as member of my community. In particular, I have appreciated the opportunity to engage with materials that help me confront the ways in which I uphold systems of oppression. Particularly towards black and Indigenous people living in Canada. Here are some tools I'd like to share that are free: Black Canadians: History, Presence, and Anti-Racist Futures as well as Historical, Systemic and Intersectional Antiracism: From Awareness to Action https://lnkd.in/gkJNBC76 These tools are important to me because: 1. They do not require the BIPOC people in your life to answer questions that are emotionally laborious for them. 2. They allow you a space to reflect on the ways you can do better, or behaviours that you need to start/stop. 3. They equip you with the language and facts to support the feelings that are sometimes difficult or uncomfortable to articulate when having conversations about racism. Please take a look and share any resources you have found to be helpful in your commitment to truthfulness and inclusive community building.

This October, as we celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth in the UK, we at Do it Now Now are reflecting on the theme of Reclaiming Narratives. Our CEO, Bayo Adelaja MBE, has shared a deeply personal story about her connection to two remarkable figures in Black history—Sarah Forbes Bonetta and J.K. Randle—and how their legacies have shaped her understanding of resilience, heritage, and the ongoing fight for justice. Sarah Forbes Bonetta, a child of African royalty, was adopted by Queen Victoria, navigating the complexities of Victorian society while retaining her cultural roots. Generations later, J.K. Randle, a key figure in Nigeria's early sporting history, led the nation to its first Olympic appearance. Their stories are intertwined with Bayo’s family history and offer powerful lessons on identity, perseverance, and the impact of our ancestors—both related by blood and in spirit. At Do it Now Now, we believe that understanding these stories is key to shaping a better, more equitable future. This month, and every month, let’s honour the stories that often go untold, recognising the strength they give us to move forward. Read more about Bayo’s journey and the legacies that continue to inspire us: Tracing My Black History: The Legacy of Sarah Forbes Bonetta and J.K. Randle. https://lnkd.in/eMWQYUd3 #ReclaimingNarratives #BlackHistory #DoitNowNow #Legacy #DiversityAndInclusion #Leadership #AncestralImpact

GIVING UP: NOT AN OPTION. History is filled with inspiring tales of triumph over adversity. Take Helen Keller, who conquered blindness and deafness to become a renowned author and activist. Then there's Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison before becoming South Africa's first black president. These stories remind us that resilience can turn tragedy into triumph. _________________________________________________ #CareerSuccess #ProfessionalDevelopment #NetworkingGoals #LeadershipJourney #CareerGrowth #LinkedInNetworking #JobOpportunities #CareerTips #ProfessionalCommunity #BusinessConnections

Juneteenth is one of the most important days in African American history. It commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States, where more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans were freed by the Union troops in Galveston Bay, Texas. We acknowledge the progress made on racial justice in our country, but we also recognize that many issues persist and that we must work collectively to break down systemic racism. Juneteenth was adopted as a federal holiday in 2021 and is observed company-wide by Domini as a reflection of our mission to uphold racial justice and equity. Every year in the month of February African American History is celebrated. Why? Because it is important to praise the importance of the African-American community, its contributions and its legacy in the country. Additionally, we can take this time to honor their eternal fight to end the abuses and inequalities they have suffered since their arrival in the United States. White Australia has a black history. That slogan is decades old, and its meaning hints at white Australia’s long-standing reluctance to meaningfully acknowledge Aboriginal people and perspectives in the telling of our national history. The history of Australia is long, complex, and in many ways challenging to learn. Australia is now home to millions of people and has thriving cities, precious land, rich culture, and a history of First Nation people that needs to be recognised and told. You can be an Ally and continue to learn the history of First Nation people, so you can tell Australia’s true history! #ReconciliationAustralia #PracticalReconciliation #EvolveCommunities #AllyTraining
