🌟 “New Year, New Goals: Using My Talents to Serve Others” As we step into another year, I’ve been contemplating a question that resonates more profoundly than typical New Year resolutions: “How can my talents benefit the world?” This year, my goals are not just about personal or professional growth, but about leveraging my skills and passions to make a meaningful impact. Identifying Strengths and Passions: My first step has been to reflect on my talents and what I’m genuinely passionate about. Whether it’s my coding skills, creative problem-solving, or ability to connect with people, understanding my strengths is key to using them effectively. Setting Purpose-Driven Goals: This year, my goals are purpose-driven. I’m focusing on projects and initiatives where I can use my skills to contribute positively. Whether it’s volunteering for tech-related community projects, mentoring aspiring coders, or developing solutions for social issues, my aim is to add value to the lives of others. Building Connections and Community: I believe that making a difference often starts with building a strong community. I’m seeking to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations where we can collaborate and amplify our impact. There’s immense power in collective effort. Learning and Adapting: To serve others effectively, I’m committed to continuous learning and adapting. Understanding the needs of those I wish to help is crucial, as is staying open to new ideas and methods. This year is about more than achieving personal milestones; it’s about using my talents in ways that contribute to the well-being and betterment of others. I had the pleasure of speaking to App Academy graduates and prospective students today about both my bootcamp journey and post-grad job hunt. Just a recap, App Academy is tough, but I found it worth it. It is structured very similarly to a job setting: from the application process, to the wording of your daily assignments, to the pair programming, to the logging of your job applications during your job search. I felt prepared to exercise my knowledge and continue to learn when I started with Agility as a full stack developer. As for the job search, my best advice is to create a schedule and stay disciplined. Keep your momentum going after graduating so you don't get side tracked. Find a way to be memorable in your applications, your LinkedIn, portfolios, and in your interviews. Be intentional with your applications, quality over quantity. Lastly, definitely take a mental health break when needed. Hope it helped, y'all!

So, about 25th December... 🫠 Something strange happened on the 25th of December, 2023. And I'm not talking about the festivities attributed to that day. Definitely not that. I'm talking about me. 😌 No, it wasn't a World changing event or ground breaking discovery. But in the context of my immediate situation, it proved to be much BETTER than both. You see, for some time, I hadn't touched my codes. Which is WEIRD because for someone in the tech space- especially an aspiring developer, reaching for a PC every chance you get should be second nature. Not this fella though.😭👍🏾 After my training, I realized that I lost my motivation and the drive that I had when I started. The spark was no longer there, I didn't get excited when I thought about anything programming or coding-related and frankly, all that remained was fleeting interest. But on this particular day, something changed.📌 Going through the day's activities, my eyes darted across the room to my table where my laptop lay undisturbed. I had a gut feeling which would normally have been brushed off, but for some reason I sat there and just stared. And then I moved... towards it. More like dragged myself. It was an ordeal but I made it! I propped myself on the chair, opened up the PC and launched VS Code. I was taken aback by the strange codes displayed on the screen (my own codes, gosh😭). Folders of incomplete projects lying in their corner staring back at me scornfully. The weight of the impending task was daunting; each passing moment bringing me closer to the inevitable. And then I typed. Sudden excitement? Ermm... No🫠 A bit pleasant, right? Nope Did I even feel anything? If at all, it would have been the uneasiness of stepping outside my comfort zone. But I had come too far to turn back now. The task looked gargantuan. -but I typed. I didn't have everything figured out but I just kept on typing, editing and getting familiar with my codes again. After going at it for a while, I concluded that I had done something reasonable.✅️ The next day brought the same situation. But I didn't require so much as a push to get on my PC. And so it was. A day became two, three became six and I started to put in a steady run in. Unfortunately, I had a four day relapse.💔 Sure, it hurt that I broke my rhythm but something had been reignited in me. I found myself longing to code again. Fast forward a month and we're in 2024. I'm making headway in my projects and seeing real progress. The rhythm is steady and I might have just gotten my spark back.✨️ #Productivity It feels good to be back. Of course, it doesn't get easier from here, but on the days when the fire doesn't burn as bright, I'll do the work because it's necessary and not just convenient. New year, new me? Nah... New year, but a more disciplined and consistent me.🫶🏾 #Consistency There's so much to offer and I'm genuinely excited to share, learn and see how far I'll go on this journey. #NewBeginnings

Week 5 is almost over! Huge gratitude for the advice and offers of support last weekend to help my lad get started with coding! Appreciate you all! What have I learnt this week? 🔸 December and January are tough for almost everyone in business. Here I was thinking I'd f'd something up. Nope - that's just business, baby. Get used to it. 😎 🔸 Traitors was ace & people don't always think logically. Either when they're making a life-changing decisions in front of millions at 3am after a gruelling day of filming AND when they jump on social media to condemn others' mistakes. 🥷 🔸 Conversations > impressions 🔸 BUT ranting about impressions, ironically, gets quite good impressions. 🔸 Setting work routines (business dev in the morning, project delivery in the afternoon + timeblocking) is a MASSIVE improvement and has boosted my productivity multiple times over... ...especially for someone who's attention span swings between hyperfocus or toddler mode. What have you learnt this week?

I find it hard to remain consistent on LinkedIn… Most people say this. The truth is that no one finds it easy to be consistent here. I don't either but I try to show up here to keep supporting my family members and making them trust me more. LinkedIn is filled with so many opportunities that you can grab if only you can remain consistent. Your showing up may not be every day, find the days you're comfortable with and stick to it. Make sure you show up with nothing but value on the days you choose to show up. Take your consistency very seriously because out of sight is out of mind. During hackathons, participants look to introduce new techniques, standards or personal programming styles to progress on projects and develop solutions. Music Hack Day and Science Hack Day are examples of industry-specific hackathons. Altruistic hackathons. These hackathons are geared toward charities and the nonprofit sector.
