Tusen takk til AGILE Styrerekruttering for dette intervjuet.
Here is the interview also in English:
What motivates you to sit on a board?
I want to influence and use my experience and professional expertise to contribute to the company achieving its long-term goals. In addition to meeting the financial goals, it is crucial for today's companies to actively involve all stakeholders in a sustainable value creation process.
What do you think are the most important qualities for a good board candidate?
In board positions, role understanding is of great importance. A board member is not an integral part of the operative management team, but rather a representative of his specialized area of expertise, with shared responsibility for the whole.
As a board member, you must be thoroughly prepared. This means not hesitating to ask relevant questions and to expect concrete answers. The ability to perceive the unsaid and to challenge what does not necessarily appear clearly in the board papers is also important. You must be active and analytical, proactive, and curious and in that way contribute to decisions being made on a solid basis.
What is your philosophy regarding board work?
It is important to understand the consequences of today's decisions for the future and the long-term strategy. In addition to correct governance, the board must also see challenges and opportunities that exist across the entire organization.
Board meetings and gatherings must be set up in the calendar, be well planned so that the board has enough time for strategic discussions.
How would you like people to describe you after a board meeting?
I would have liked to be characterized as committed, sensible and a clear communicator, even when the matter is complex. At the same time, I want to contribute to the board receiving valuable input that stimulates reflection and facilitates constructive discussions in the board.
What is the most valuable lesson you have taken away from previous board experience?
It is absolutely essential for a board to have a future-oriented perspective, and based on my experience, customer focus is unfortunately often underestimated in board work.
The chairman plays a crucial role and the best chairman I have worked with was extremely skilled at ensuring that all points of view around the board table were heard.
What do you hope to contribute as a member of a board?
My international experience will be useful for companies that want to establish themselves in new markets or that already export. After a long career in several countries, there is one thing I know for sure: You don't know what you don't know. Without such an understanding, one can quickly make significant mistakes.
As a marketer, I want to contribute to customer focus, and my experience from companies in technology and telecommunications is valuable for companies undergoing transformations.
