International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) released a new report, "Guidance Document on Integrating Coral Reefs and Associated Ecosystems into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans". This document serves to provide guidance to coral reef countries on how to integrate coral reefs and associated ecosystems into their revised NBSAPs to support the alignment of plans and actions, at the national level, with respect to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The guidance also presents a range of resources and example actions that could be undertaken by countries in relation to the goals and targets of the GBF.

A series of meetings recently concluded in Nadi, Fiji, that provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration and sharing of experiences to support the review and implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). The meetings examined Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, with participants taking a more in-depth look at the support which can be accessed through the Early Action Support Project for NBSAP Revision. 🐠 Today ICRI convened a webinar for the ad hoc committee on integrating #coralreefs into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). 🐡 The interactive session provided an opportunity for ICRI members to learn more about the forthcoming release of the ICRI guidance document to countries on how to integrate coral reefs and associated ecosystems (mangroves and seagrass beds) into National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to help align them with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This document was produced by the ICRI ad hoc committee on coral reefs and NBSAPs. 🐟 The committee was established at the 37th ICRI General Meeting in September 2023, in response to coral reefs, and their associated ecosystems, not being explicitly referenced within the adopted GBF’s 4 goals and 23 targets. Nonetheless, the GBF remains highly applicable to coral reefs and their associated ecosystems. 🪸We look forward to revising the document and engaging in the ongoing discussions #ForCoral Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ebwBPr5g

💡🌱 How can integrating #KBAs into #NBSAPs help to deliver the GBF? The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) was finalised in December 2022. Countries must now re-align their existing National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to reflect the mission, four goals and 23 targets of the GBF. Conserving Key Biodiversity Areas is central to delivering the GBF’s overall ‘nature positive’ mission to take urgent action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. KBAs are useful for guiding countries in three main areas of the GBF: 𝗮. Identification of sites of importance for biodiversity to guide expansion of protected and conserved areas to 30% by 2030; 𝗯. Identification of Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs); and 𝗰. National spatial planning. Discover more about how KBAs can be useful for NBSAPs 🌐

Biodiversity is high on our agenda. Our target is that 100% of our development projects need to implement a biodiversity action plan. The biodiversity action plan is prepared by a qualified ecologist after assessment of the characteristics of the local biodiversity. The purpose is to avoid and reduce all impacts of the project on the local nature, and to implement a list of recommendations. Check out the diverse biodiversity features of our projects here: https://lnkd.in/e3wYdbq9 #VGP #LogisticsRealEstate #IndustrialRealEstate #Biodiversity

Professor of Ecotoxicology and Hydrobiology, Department, Animal and Environmental Biology; Techwomen Fellow; FGN-IAEA Technical Cooperation Project,
The International Day for Biodiversity (IDB) is celebrated every year on 22 May. The theme of IDB 2024, “Be part of the Plan”, is a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Biodiversity Plan which is the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. I am joining AEIAN and the rest of the world to know how you are being, or how you intend to be part of the Biodiversity Plan. The Big question is, What are you doing? Let’s know what you are doing to reverse the loss of biodiversity. #PartOfThePlan #BiodiversityDay #aeian

On International Biodiversity Day, we want to highlight our work to support members to understand and integrate #biodiversity into their work. For example in England we are encouraging peer-to-peer learning about the impact of the new Biodiversity Net Gain requirements for planners. RTPI members are encouraged to share their experiences with us using our survey and to share case studies of best practice 👇 https://lnkd.in/eDcQX7uz In Northern Ireland we published 'Biodiversity in planning in post-Brexit Northern Ireland' focusing on the potential contribution of planning to biodiversity conservation and enhancement 👇 https://lnkd.in/eZdeXVRh If you want to learn more about what's happening in biodiversity in your region, click here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e4UCS5Mh #bng

Finally some good action in place.
Big, big news day for #biodiversitynetgain (BNG) Today sees the publication by Government of the statutory biodiversity metric. Government has also laid the metric parliamentary act paper. Legally the statutory metric must be used by projects covered by mandatory BNG when that commences. The statutory biodiversity metric can be found at https://lnkd.in/eubtZDMv

Director at Wharton Natural Infrastructure Consultants | Chartered Arboriculturist. We help you achieve biodiversity net gain and provide tree and ecological consultancy services to support planning applications.
The statutory biodiversity metric tools and guides have been published by Defra. This a huge step forward and great work nick white and everyone involved. The guidance has been updated throughout with information and examples about what biodiversity net gain means, how it is measured and how it can be achieved when it becomes mandatory. #bng #biodiversitynetgain #habitats #ecology #legislation
