I like the phrase in this from transport researcher Mathew Hounsell: "The only way to fix traffic congestion is for less people to drive". He correctly predicts in my view that when WestConnex is connected via the Western Harbour Crossing, the problem will get worse as this will attract more cars on to the roads. I think where the cars come out at North Sydney will be another Rozelle-style fiasco. And I have a bad feeling about the widening of the Warringah freeway meant with the Western Harbour Crossing to reduce traffic onto the Harbour Bridge. As we note from a reading of the existing TFNSW website: 'This much needed new crossing of Sydney Harbour will be a game changer for our city. You will save time on your journeys....This project will get you to places faster by improving capacity and providing new direct routes and reliability on both sides of the harbour'. Delusional, written by copywriters sitting down with traffic engineers who like it was said of the Bourbon kings 'have learned nothing and forgotten nothing'. Induced demand anyone? If you want to reduce congestion, don't build or widen new roads: charge a proper price for using them. They are underpriced public goods. #publictransport #congestioncharging

Clean Transportation Infrastructure As climate change accelerates and greenhouse gas emissions rise, the need for clean transportation infrastructure has become urgent. This infrastructure involves developing systems, technologies, and policies that reduce transportation's environmental impact, enhance efficiency, and promote sustainability. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are at the forefront of this revolution. EVs, powered by electricity instead of fossil fuels, produce zero tailpipe emissions. Their growing affordability and the expansion of charging infrastructure are facilitating broader adoption. Public Transit Systems also play a critical role. Electrified buses, trains, and trams, coupled with smart technology, reduce reliance on personal vehicles and make public transport more efficient and appealing. Bicycle and Pedestrian Infrastructure encourages active transportation modes, reducing traffic congestion and emissions while improving public health. Building safe bike lanes, pedestrian pathways, and bike-sharing programs are essential steps. Integrating Renewable Energy into transportation, such as powering EV charging stations with solar or wind energy, ensures that transportation remains sustainable. Additionally, Smart Mobility Solutions like real-time traffic management and autonomous vehicles optimize routes and decrease emissions. Government policies and investments are crucial for clean transportation infrastructure development. Incentives like tax credits for EV purchases and grants for infrastructure projects promote adoption and innovation. Regulatory measures drive the transition to cleaner options. Public-private partnerships also play a key role in mobilizing resources and expertise. The benefits are substantial: reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality, job creation, economic growth, and enhanced energy security. Despite challenges like high initial costs and resistance to change, the future of clean transportation infrastructure is promising. With continued technological advancements, supportive policies, and increased public awareness, we can achieve a sustainable transportation system that paves the way for a greener, healthier, and more prosperous future. #CleanTransportation #Infrastructure #SustainableMobility #GreenTransportation #EcoFriendly #RenewableEnergy #ElectricVehicles #PublicTransportation #SustainableCities #EmissionsFree #EcoTransportation #SmartMobility #CleanEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #GreenInfrastructure #LowCarbon #EfficientTransportation #EcoMobility #SustainableTransportation #ValueIcons #ValueIconsMagazine #VI #ValueIconsBusinessLeadership #ValueIconsExecutiveInsights #IndustryLeaders #ProfessionalGrowthJourney #ValueIconsCorporateVision #ValueIconsLeadershipPerspectives #ValueIconsBusinessMagazine #ExecutiveEdition #CEOInsights #IndustryMagazine #ValueIconsLeadershipJournal

The Pacific Electric Railway once provided an extensive and efficient transit network in Southern California, but post-WWII policies and automaker interests led to its dismantling in favor of highways. This shift contributed to severe traffic congestion and pollution in Los Angeles. Today, the city is investing heavily in rebuilding its transit infrastructure, a costly endeavor that highlights the need for transit equity. Ensuring accessible, affordable, and efficient public transportation is crucial for sustainable urban development and reducing socioeconomic disparities. The history of the Pacific Electric Railway underscores the importance of prioritizing long-term benefits over short-term gains in urban planning.
