What a wild ride it's been, from that first proof of concept in a #Jupyter notebook to the final deployment on a #Kubernetes cluster, 620 commits later! While I'm more at home in the Java- and .NET-universe, it's fascinating how the maturity of #Python's infrastructure for creating #geospatial applications made seemingly big problems easily solvable. Especially #GeoPandas and #Shapely have been great tools. On the other hand, seemingly simple issues like finding the correct public transport hub near the airport's reference point or finding an efficient algorithm for unioning large polygons truly put our problem-solving skills to the test.
Connecting Europe with New Green Aviation ... ...is one of the key components of EU's "Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy". And as I learned today at the Connecting Europe Days in Brussels, one essential element towards this goal is to „…explore new (interconnected) network strategies among airlines and airports to capitalize on the potential of new aircraft propulsion technologies.“ --> I couldn’t agree more! That's why we developed the idea of „2hour-airport - connecting european regions with new green aviation". Check it out (freshly released today... ;) https://lnkd.in/eMiP6xjp #planeground #GreenAviation #FutureTravel

👀 Next time you arrive at Brussels Airport, keep an eye out for our message to MEPs in the Arrivals corridor🛬 We’re urging MEPs to join us in securing a competitive, sustainable future for Europe’s airline industry. 🌍 Europe’s aviation sector is crucial to keeping our continent connected—enabling millions to live, work, study, and do business across the EU and beyond. ⛓ Strong connections mean a stronger Europe. For future generations, we want to preserve this connectivity. That means driving sustainability, boosting competitiveness, reforming our airspace, and completing the single aviation market. Topic of sustainable aviation fuel is heating up in Singapore Airshow this week. My colleagues Sal Arora and Daniel Riefer talked with leaders of industry Daniel Ng from Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Grace Cheung from Cathay Pacific, Marie-Agnès Vève from Airbus, Jonathan Yeo from FlyORO and Philip Siu from EcoCeres, Inc. about the way forward. Maybe it's time to look deeper what would SAF transition mean for the SEA region? https://lnkd.in/gvCSbz28

The A340, once a pioneer of long-haul travel, now faces a precarious future as #airlines shift towards more fuel-efficient twin-engine jets. Despite its record-breaking feats and initial promise, the A340's four engines have become a liability in an era of rising fuel costs and evolving safety standards favoring twinjets. With just 64 A340s still flying globally, and no airlines operating the A340-500 variant, the decline seems inevitable. Even Singapore Airlines, known for its groundbreaking Newark to Singapore route, abandoned the -500 due to financial constraints. As newer models like the A350 and 787 boast better efficiency and safety ratings, the A340's fate appears sealed. While the A380 enjoys a resurgence, its older sibling faces extinction, symbolizing the relentless march of progress in the aviation industry. https://lnkd.in/dMJ8Zh8u #tourism #Tourisminsights #pakistan #tourismindustry #AtharJ #ecotourism #sustainabletourism #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #tourismmarketing #60seconds
