Something you should know about #hiv! Undetectable = Untransmittable. What does it mean and how well is it understood by our societies today? Undetectable equals Untransmittable (#u=u) means that under effective HIV therapy, the virus cannot be sexually transmitted. 💊 A recent multi-country HIV survey across #austria, #greece and #switzerland explored public awareness, understanding and acceptance of U=U. 🔬 The results clearly showed a limited recognition of U=U in all three countries. This lack of knowledge is often accompanied by HIV-associated stigma, social distancing, and misperceptions about HIV transmission. The survey underlines the remaining importance of effective awareness campaigns and education to spread the U=U message, and helps foster a more informed and supportive public stance towards people living with HIV. ❤️ Learn more about the survey results during the poster presentation (WEPED341) at #aids2024. #GileadAustria

To reach the UNAIDS goal of 95% of people knowing their #HIV status by 2030, the global community must improve access to HIV testing for all, especially members of key populations that are disproportionately affected by HIV. Learn more about barriers, facilitators, and strategies to enhance uptake of HIV self-testing among men who have sex with men in this recently published article co-authored by JSI’s Donald Udah: https://lnkd.in/eTQV-gYq #PutPeopleFirst #HIVtesting #HIVprevention #KeyPopulations

🔬🌍 Knowledge is power when it comes to HIV, and I am proud to be a Subject Matter Expert dedicating my life to raising awareness on this global health issue. Did you know that misconceptions and myths surrounding HIV still exist today? By educating ourselves and others, we can combat stigma, promote prevention, and support those living with HIV. 💡 As a subject matter expert, I've learned that understanding the facts is crucial. HIV is transmitted through certain bodily fluids, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. It cannot be transmitted through casual contact, sharing utensils, or mosquito bites. By sharing these facts, we can dispel fears and reduce discrimination. 🌟 Another crucial aspect of being a subject matter expert is advocating for safe sex practices and the use of preventive measures, such as condoms and regular testing. Promoting awareness about PrEP and PEP can help individuals protect themselves and their partners. 🤝 By offering a non-judgmental space for open conversations, we can help reduce the isolation and emotional burden that may accompany an HIV diagnosis.🙌 Together, let's break the silence and be a force for change! 💪 Join me on this journey of enlightenment and understanding. Share this post and let's start a conversation that can change lives! Together, we can make a difference in the fight against HIV. 🌍❤️ #HIVAwareness #SubjectMatterExpert #EndStigma #FightHIV #KnowledgeIsPower #hivstopswithme

#HIV/AIDS #aidsawareness Did you know that, the estimated global population🌍living with HIV is approximately 39 million people? It's a significant number, and it highlights the importance of continued efforts in prevention, testing, and management .Together, we can work towards ending the HIV epidemic.Stay with me as I run through the preventive methods quickly as I will say #Prevention Is #Cure. When it comes to preventing HIV/AIDS, the ABC method is a helpful approach. Here's what it stands for: 1️⃣A - Abstinence: Choosing to abstain from sexual activity is the most effective way to prevent the transmission of HIV. 2️⃣B - Be Faithful: If you're in a mutually monogamous relationship, being faithful to your partner reduces the risk of HIV transmission. 3️⃣C - Condom Use: Consistently and correctly using condoms during sexual activity can greatly reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Get tested and Know your Status today and Remember having #HIV/#aids doesn’t mean it is the end of the world, having HIV/AIDS doesn’t make you less of a human. There are measures put in place to manage this condition and you can do whatever you set your mind to do. We love you too❤️😊 Remember, we can make an impact beyond World AIDS Day. Let's keep the conversation going and work towards an AIDS-free future. 💪🏾❤️ #WorldAIDSDay #EndHIVStigma"

Despite the tremendous progress that's been achieved in preventing and treating HIV/AIDS, women remain at particular risk, while substance abuse remains one of the major risk factors for contracting the virus and exacerbating its progression. At the end of 2019, the most recent year of available data, the majority of new HIV cases were among women ages 25-44, and African American women accounted for 54% of the new HIV diagnoses. If you are a woman struggling with substance abuse, understand your risk factors for HIV/AIDS and get help today. https://lnkd.in/gjwqS3m

Four notes about why National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is so important: 1. In the 90s, women were told that they didn't need to worry about HIV. But if they tested positive, they were judged, often denied care & punished. 2. Today, women are often excluded from the HIV response and told that it is a "gay men's disease." However, HIV is a sexually transmitted infection that can and does affect anyone. 3. HIV is a disease of poverty but the field often acts like treatment is the only thing that matters all while ignoring what people have to do to survive―which often leads to them acquiring HIV. 4. If we addressed these issues, viremia & HIV rates would plummet―especially among women. I learned all of this from Patricia Nalls at a conference, two years ago. After losing her husband and daughter to AIDS and being diagnosed with the condition herself, Nalls founded The Women's Collective―an organization that helps women living with HIV and protects people who are HIV possible from acquiring the virus. You can learn more about their work and support it at: https://lnkd.in/eYZNhQ6Q #HIV #EmpowerWomen
