I seriously cannot get enough of these ideas- which aren’t radical but grounded in research and knowledge but which could truly upend the system that isn’t working for ANYONE. The brilliant Jill Hahn-Jakulski always had us teaching multiple subject which allowed for more wiggle room than most teachers had, I spent more time with my students and we could explore not just subjects but feelings more in depth - I can’t imagine getting to do that on a much bigger scale. #revolution #inclusivebydesign #startfresh #voiceandchoice
HRP will be getting a full-day immersive tour of the Community Lab School in Charlottesville next week, featured in this PBS piece: "We want kids to feel a sense of agency and that this is a place where their ideas will be heard.” https://lnkd.in/eU2KKux9

Exciting news! Our peer-reviewed article has just been published in the Focus on Exceptional Children! It highlights our work for the past 12 years on developing and implementing evidence-based technology tools, including Future Quest Island-Explorations, funded by the Federal Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). I’m grateful for the incredible team behind this, Anya Evmenova, Anita Vermeer, Terry Jackson, Ed.D. , Jocelyn Washburn , Tolulope Sulaimon PhD, and editor extraordinaire Lisa Dieker. We hope this work proves valuable to colleagues and future scholars in the field of educational technology, especially in supporting equitable access for students with disabilities. Imagine being in a world where you choose to start a family with 1 or multiple children, developing dreams and hopes for them only to have school districts push pause on you? Parents being left out of policy conversations and the overall school decision making process has slowly become the norm, therefore diminishing parent power. It’s time to take it back. Don’t get us wrong, parents will always have power. They will always be the experts. After all, they know what’s best for their children. But, is this common knowledge? Last week, we brought in a powerful group of parent leaders to convene and discuss: the how, the why, and the PLAN of how to recenter parents in the space of transforming education. Parent Organizing Institute was more than an event. It was the start to something EPIC. The question is: Are you joining? https://lnkd.in/e96W7EHQ
