As much as I love to speak about the frustrations in health care or my current position, it is just as important to highlight positive outcomes as well. So today I wanted to share the following with you: I had a breakthrough with a patient on my caseload. By delving deeper into her needs, I discovered that she requires long-term housing support, something she hadn't previously expressed. Using my limited motivational interviewing skills (I need to search for MI training from a certified and reputable source), I uncovered the gaps in our support system and identified the root cause of her sporadic engagement. This experience reinforced the importance of thorough patient understanding and highlighted areas for improvement in my role as an LCM. After an open and honest conversation, the patient and I developed a plan that resonated with her. I'm confident that our next follow-up in 2 weeks will be more productive, paving the way for enhanced support and service delivery. #PatientCare #Healthcare #SupportServices #CaseManagement #PatientCenteredCare #CareGaps #HealthAdvocacy #MotivationalInterviewing #PatientEngagement #PositiveOutcomes

Post re #NHS having no policy for very/severe M.E In over 9 years of advocacy, it had never occurred to me that no policy existed. I knew about - Psychologist interference and false narrative. - Deaths (and NHS' role) - Poor knowledgebase - Dr Myhill - #MPDoYourJob4ME related issues. But I had never joined the dots. I thought some hospitals were 'rogue' and (wrongly) believed that Drs were able to use their initiative and try measures to improve 'care' in individual cases (provided they could justify clinical decisions). I thought the main issue was the poor knowledgebase. But now, I see that even HCPs who understand M.E and the associated biological processes would not be able to 'appropriately care' for someone with v/severe M.E due to the lack of a NHS policy. I'll be tackling this in the new year - emails will be inbound. Please get in touch with me if you can help to cteate/implement a NHS policy. #Health #Medicine #Legal

Navigating the delicate balance between healthcare professionals' mental health and patient safety is crucial in a high-stress profession. A recent Medscape survey revealed that nearly 20% of physicians struggle with depression, often tied to job burnout, impacting both personal well-being and patient care. States like Montana are redefining treatment boundaries to empower medical professionals to seek mental health support without immediate regulatory notifications. While the goal is clear - ensuring timely care and curbing workforce burnout - concerns about invasive monitoring and disclosure persist. The call for confidential care gains momentum, with programs like Virginia's SafeHaven offering counseling and peer coaching, preserving healthcare workers' privacy. Yet, challenges persist in reporting requirements and the confidentiality of counseling sessions. Balancing physician privacy and patient safety remains paramount. Positive steps, like the SafeHaven program and proposed changes in other states, point towards a more supportive future. However, nuanced policies and a cultural shift in healthcare are essential for sustained mental health support for those caring for others. #SharedHarvest #mentalhealth #mentalwellbeing #healthcare #healthcareworkforce #doctors #whitecollars #HealthcareWellness #MentalHealthSupport #PatientSafetyFirst

Support Coordinators! How can allied health clinicians better support you? Recently, I spoke with a SC that mentioned they had close to 240 clients allocated to them and the constant back and forth with the NDIS red tape was causing feelings of burnout. Also, working with clients in remote parts of Australia, I often have informal chats with SC's who express feelings of isolation, exhaustion and most concerningly, compassion fatigue. This got me thinking, as an allied health clinician, we can often lean on our treating teams or our allied health connections, or our supervisors for support. So, who is supporting the SC's to do the incredibly important work that they do? I'm genuinely curious to hear SC's thoughts/insights on how they're copping with service demand, but also how SC's think that clients therapy supports might be able to better assist/support them- If you'd prefer to inbox me directly, I'm always up for a yarn! #supportforsupportcoordinators #mentalhealth #Occupationaltherapy #OT #TheOnlineOT
