Honoring Dr. King is important, but continuing his activism against white supremacy and working to advance anti-racist policies and practices is much more critical (and time-sensitive!). It's not enough to mouth the words of his iconic speeches and pay lip service to the legacy of leaders from the last civil rights era. This country's history of slavery, voter suppression, redlining, and other forms of systemic discrimination continue to get in the way of Black children and their families. WE CAN CHANGE THAT. This report by Iheoma Iruka, Cemere James and others includes a list of 10 policies that the US can/should/must implement a step towards fulfilling America's promise to "honor, uphold, and protect the full human rights of all Black children, families, and communities". #mlk #martinlutherkingjr

It takes us to save us. United in our community, we can work towards the liberation of Black people, freeing ourselves from the bondage of systemic injustice—mentally, physically, and spiritually. Liberation is about breaking free from the constraints of inequity that bind us. It’s about uplifting one another and ensuring that every member of our community has the tools they need to thrive. Justice begins with us. It begins with how we treat each other, how we advocate for those who are marginalized, and how we show up for our community. As students, your voice is powerful. You have the opportunity to drive change—through your work, through activism, and through your vote. I, Kyara Ofuani, am running for Justice of the Peace Precinct 7 Place 1 because I believe in a system that works for everyone, not just the few. On November 5, 2024, I ask for your support—not just with your vote but with your continued engagement in this fight for justice. Together, we can ensure that fairness and equality become the cornerstone of our community, starting with Precinct 7. #JusticeForAll #VoteForKyaraOfuani #JPPrecinct7place1 #CommunityFirst #EmpowerChange #YourVoiceMatters #SupportLocalLeadership #CivicEngagement #YourVoteCounts #MakingADifference #LeadershipInAction #JusticeWithIntegrity #Election2024 #TogetherForJustice

Sometimes, in the journey for justice and equality, we find ourselves at a crossroads between action and endless deliberation. 🌈✊ Over the years, I've seen countless studies validate what we've always known in our hearts: everyone deserves to serve openly, proudly, and without fear of discrimination. Yet, the cycle of studying rather than acting continues to delay the progress we so desperately need. On a day that marked a significant victory in our ongoing fight, a reminder was placed in my hands, a congressional study done in 1993 on homosexuals in the military —a symbol of how far we've come and how unnecessary the delay was. It wasn't just about one policy or one group; it's about our collective struggle for dignity and respect. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ A poignant reminder of the journey we've undertaken and the obstacles we've overcome. This picture, which I've included with this message, symbolizes a pivotal moment in our history—a moment when the need for further study was overtaken by the imperative for equality and justice. Let's not wait for another study to tell us what's right. The evidence is overwhelming; the time for action is now. We must move beyond acknowledgments and towards real change. Let's use our voices and our visibility to make a difference. Because in the end, it's not just about policies; it's about people. It's about humanity. 💖 America is always a team sport.

Partners' recognizes today, June 19th as Juneteenth. Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day” and “Emancipation Day,” is a significant day in American history. Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. Going forward, the country now recognizes Juneteenth each year to reflect on our history and commit to doing better. The legacy of Juneteenth illustrates the power of African Americans’ perseverance, strength, resilience, and refusal to give up hope, even in the toughest of times. However, June 19, 1865, did not mark the end of their journey towards achieving freedom, equality, and justice. It was only the beginning. Let us recognize the accomplishments of those who have fought long and hard for civil rights and social justice and acknowledge the work that we must continue to do to address institutional racism and systemic inequality.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Many young men embarked on a journey to distant lands in order to defend freedom and democracy, with the hope of returning to live prosperous lives. Unfortunately, not all of these soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice did so on the battlefield. Some returned home, only to gradually lose themselves bit by bit until there was nothing left. The best way to honour their sacrifice is by upholding the principles they fought for. In this regard, the value of free speech is an indisputable cornerstone of any society. It is imperative that we all stand firm in support of this principle. Free speech not only defines Western civilization, but it also shapes our very identity. Taking a stand against the suppression of speech is the only stance that aligns with our moral and democratic ideals. Engaging in this uncomfortable debate allows for the expression of diverse perspectives, which is essential for progress in any organization, culture, or nation. We must never take our freedom and democratic rights for granted! RoyRatnavel.com #dday #normandy #june6 #culture #diversity #respect #progress #freedomofspeech #democracy #honor #rights

On this International Day of Democracy, we reaffirm our commitment to the principles of justice, equity, and the power of collective voice. Democracy is not just about the right to vote—it’s about ensuring that every voice, especially those from marginalized communities, is heard and valued in the decision-making process. We believe that a true democracy is one where Black and BIPOC communities have equitable access to opportunities and are empowered to influence policies that impact their lives. Let’s continue to work together to strengthen our democracy, ensuring it is reflective of the diverse fabric of our nation. #InternationalDayOfDemocracy #BuildBackBlack #DemocracyInAction #EmpowerCommunities #FMSGlobalStrategies #WBBA

Today, as we honour and reflect on the sacrifices made for our rights and freedoms, let us remember the words of Nelson Mandela, who said, "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Let us continue to strive and recognise the importance of equality, justice, and respect for all. Slavery was abolished by the Thirteenth Amendment, which was ratified on December 6, 1865. However, it took nearly two years for all of the states in the Union to ratify the amendment. There is still progress to be made today in terms of equality and equity. Juneteenth is an important day to reflect on our country's history and consider the many ways we can continue to make strides to close gaps and end racial injustice. A few ways you can encourage your team to observe Juneteenth include: Speak up when you witness acts of discrimination, hate, or racism Volunteer at organizations that defend civil rights or promote social action Support Black-owned businesses Encourage open dialogues about race with your friends and family Diversify your media consumption to include Black voices
