A Valentines day treat for the Applicants!!! In this matter the court had to consider whether the Respondent had complied with an arbitration award or not. This application was brought by the Applicants who had been employed part-time by the Respondent as cooks, and the Respondent would call the Applicants to work once an activity requiring their services occurs in the workplace. The Applicants received R 100 per day for their services and worked for 5 days on average in a month. The Applicants were dismissed from their posts and new employees were appointed to their positions. The Applicants reffered an unfair dismissal dispute to the CCMA and the commissioner found that their dismissal was procedurally and substantively unfair and ordered the Respondent to reinstate the Applicants to their positions on the same terms and conditions before their dismissal. The Labour Court is granted powers under section 158(1)(c)of the Labour Relations Act to make an arbitration award an order of court. The court accordingly made the CCMA arbitration award an order of court. The court in reaching this decision reasoned as follows: "The ordinary meaning of the word "reinstate" is to put the employee in the same job or position he or she occupied before their dismissal. Reinstatement is aimed at placing an employee in the position he/she would have occupied but for the unfair dismissal". The Respondent in this matter had reinstated the Applicants and did not use their services for a period of 3 months meaning they were not renumerated throughout this time. The Respondent failed to comply with the arbitration award as it no longer called the Applicants to come and offer their services as and when they were required which was the position before their dismissal. In consideration of this the court made the arbitration award an order of court and ordered cost in favour of the Applicants. Chocolates and flowers for the Applicants 😊

Quality Time - no interruptions, having that meaningful conversation. Words of affirmation - hearing I love you never gets old. Physical touch - holding hands, snuggling on a sofa. The idea is that you learn what your partners 'language' is and you share your love in that way. If they adore receiving gifts, you show your love by thoughtful gifts, spend time getting them just the right thing to show you thought carefully about what you chose. If they need words of affirmation, remember to compliment them, tell them you love them, share that you see them, acknowledge your love. By understanding what fills their heart with joy you will immediately feel closer. On the flip side if you spend hours looking for the perfect gift and their language of love is quality time, they will misinterpret your gift as buying their affection. Getting the love language wrong can have repercussions. So, do the most romantic thing of all and talk to your loved one about what their language of love is and share yours too. You may be surprised. I guarantee that when you are both aware of the other persons choice, you will be able to share your love more deeply. What an achievement! 🎉 We caught up with Alex to ask about her experiences in the Polythene industry and what's on her playlist! 🟩What are some of the most significant changes you've witnessed in the industry during your 25 years at IPP? Lots of changes over the years! Raw material costs have changed a great deal. The cost of British manufacturing has increased hugely. Polythene bags have become somewhat more technical than they ever were before. I've witnessed how Imperial have moved with the times over the past 25 years, innovating & adapting to the constant evolving requirements of the Polythene industry / market & the customers needs. 🟩You're a huge music fan! What 3 albums would you take with you if you were stuck on an island? Very tricky to answer that one! Dark Side of the Moon combined with Wish you were here - Pink Floyd, Different Class - Pulp & Rumours - Fleetwood Mac. These choices could change daily though as so difficult to choose just 3! Wishing a very happy 40th wedding anniversary to my parents! While neither of my parents ever worked in the “corporate world” so much of who I am as a professional is thanks to them.
