If traffic shifts from Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Reagan National Airport (DCA), airlines would cut international routes, which largely rely on domestic connections for their transfer passengers. It would also discourage airlines from starting new international routes at IAD. Adding flights at DCA would disrupt the carefully designed balance of D.C.’s three-airport system, risking less international flight options for customers in the D.C. air travel market: https://lnkd.in/e-Mmf4MR.

Norse Atlantic Airways' network woes continue – and not just in winter. It has now cut summer-seasonal London Gatwick to Boston and Washington Dulles. While no surprise given both were at what seemed to be full fare for a while, it is still a major change. In response, it has doubled Gatwick-JFK to twice daily in S23. But due to a lack of slots at good times, this will leave Gatwick at 20:40, arrive in JFK at 23:30, leave at 01:30, and get back at 13:30. A very big ouch. While Gatwick-Los Angeles remains this summer, frequencies have fallen depending on the week. They are now three to six weekly, down from daily. Everyone knows getting slots is one thing and using them is another. Norse has secured Gatwick slots for Las Vegas and Dubai slots for Gatwick. Sonoma County Airport is gearing up for airline expansions. Avelo Airlines is set to establish its base operations there on May 1st. On May 6th, American Airlines plans to boost its Dallas flights using larger aircraft. From May through August, a 20% surge in passenger traffic is anticipated due to these upgrades and more frequent flights. Additionally, Alaska Airlines is slated to commence direct flights to Las Vegas from October 1st:

Lessons from a bad day at JKF: 1)    United Airlines does not have a counter or any staff at terminal 1. If you book them as the partner airline as I did (Swiss Air) and you have a problem, the only recourse you have is the 1-800# and a 30 + minute hold. 2)     American Express Global Business Travel says they have 24/7 service, but today I waited more than an hour and a half to get someone on the phone to speak with about my reservation that I made through them. Imagine if you needed urgent help? 3)     If you book your flights through American Express Global Business Travel and they don’t assign you a seat, be wary, you might not actually get a seat on the flight you booked in the same class of service. 4)     There isn’t much to do waiting for seven hours for your rebooked flight at JFK terminal 1.
