Most of us got into fashion because of creativity. We've seen McQueen's shows, Galliano's drama, Chalayan's conceptualism. We had Vivien Westwood and Marc Jacobs' Louis Vuitton era. Even David Koma was doing structural coctail dresses and Mary Katrantzou had chandelier skirts you couldn't sit in. But as a fashion student, you get to uni and people start asking you questions like: who is your customer, who will buy this and your teachers tell you things like: design more dresses and coats, because they sell. So it kind of starts dawning on you that this is a product and it needs to have "some" functionality. Then luxury decided to tap into wider customer base and started offering "cheaper" products like t-shirts and sweatshirts to the masses, so they too can say they own branded stuff. Virgil introduced streetwear to the top of the fashion pyramid, although Jacobs already had his Grunge collection in the 80s, it just wasn't the right time. This opened the way for Off White, Vetements and catapulted Demna to the top spot. So now, the Margiela couture show hits right into our hearts, because this is a lost era, a glimse of the glorious past, while we continue woking in an industry that is so confused and polarized. Creativity, my friends, can be harnessed to really change this industry, but sometimes fashion can just be art. This is one of those times. #margiela #couture #couturefashion #galliano #fashion #fashionindustry https://lnkd.in/d8cQ5kpz

💡 Art, luxury, and fashion converged during this week's Haute Couture in Paris. Ever wondered how it all works? The designs showcased on the runway blur the boundaries between fashion and art, resembling exquisite artworks more than ready-to-wear garments. Let's explore the dynamics of haute couture and its synergy with the art world. 💡 During the runway shows, exclusive by invitation only audiences of buyers admire these unique pieces. 💡 Post-show, fashion houses open their showrooms for an exclusive clientèle of VIPs to schedule appointments and explore these creations. Clients can purchase pieces as displayed or request personalised adjustments. These runway pieces often command prices reaching thousands, echoing the allure of collecting fine art. Fashion is inherently more commercial than art, yet fashion houses balance it with ready-to-wear collections, which fund the creation of these meticulously crafted works of art. https://lnkd.in/dvArCYeA #businessoffashion #futureofconsumer #luxurymarket

Fashion project developer/Leathergoods luxury industry passionate/ Looking to link travel, experience, creative development and sales
Ego and Fashion 💥 John Galliano closed Paris Haute Couture week with the presentation of Maison Margiela, and the reaction has been unanimous toward sublime work. Due to circumstances that you surely know (he was swiftly expelled as creative director of Christian Dior Couture for anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris bar), the man who represented the changing era in haute couture houses fell into obscurity. After rehabilitation from various addictions, he returned as creative director for Margiela. Galliano became a rockstar designer with orchestrated appearances at the end of each show. This was at the beginning of the millennium when the minimalist proposals of the '90s were fading away, and the world seemed to live in an eternal party that ended when someone decided to turn on the lights, and we all woke up in 2008 with a monumental crisis. The star began to fade, and undoubtedly, the ever-increasing demands of the industry probably finished the job. In 2024, as if it were a twist of fate, Galliano presents his best collection at the helm of Margiela (the house of anti-ego in fashion par excellence). The once-star embraces anonymity and lets the work speak for itself, as if it were an exercise in self-analysis. There are several things that link Galliano to another great talent, Rick Owens. Both question the role of normative beauty, and both go against the current in the world of luxury that tends to unify and eliminate dissent. #fashion #fashionindustry #luxury #luxuryfashion #rickowens #margiela #maisonmargiela #galliano #johngalliano
