Most of us got into fashion because of creativity. We've seen McQueen's shows, Galliano's drama, Chalayan's conceptualism. We had Vivien Westwood and Marc Jacobs' Louis Vuitton era. Even David Koma was doing structural coctail dresses and Mary Katrantzou had chandelier skirts you couldn't sit in. But as a fashion student, you get to uni and people start asking you questions like: who is your customer, who will buy this and your teachers tell you things like: design more dresses and coats, because they sell. So it kind of starts dawning on you that this is a product and it needs to have "some" functionality. Then luxury decided to tap into wider customer base and started offering "cheaper" products like t-shirts and sweatshirts to the masses, so they too can say they own branded stuff. Virgil introduced streetwear to the top of the fashion pyramid, although Jacobs already had his Grunge collection in the 80s, it just wasn't the right time. This opened the way for Off White, Vetements and catapulted Demna to the top spot. So now, the Margiela couture show hits right into our hearts, because this is a lost era, a glimse of the glorious past, while we continue woking in an industry that is so confused and polarized. Creativity, my friends, can be harnessed to really change this industry, but sometimes fashion can just be art. This is one of those times. #margiela #couture #couturefashion #galliano #fashion #fashionindustry https://lnkd.in/d8cQ5kpz
