Please help us make Alhambra High School a Phone-Free Zone. In an effort to enhance student focus and well-being, we are launching a campaign to purchase cell phone cabinets for all classrooms in our high school. By creating phone-free zones, we aim to provide a distraction-free learning environment that promotes student engagement and success. Since August 2022, Alhambra High School has had a policy restricting cell phone use during instructional time, but enforcement has been inconsistent across classrooms. This inconsistency makes it difficult for teachers who adhere to the policy. Several teachers have piloted the use of cell phone cabinets and reported exceedingly positive results. Our teachers need help in upholding school wide expectations. Your support in funding this project will help us implement this crucial policy and ensure our students excel both academically and emotionally. The research (both cognitive science and the policy effect literature) strongly supports smartphone controls in schools. Moreover, the state legislature has asked schools to find ways to limit phones in school. Teachers and educators have been battling the disruptive influence of cell phones and social media for years in our classrooms. Please partner with us in creating a healthier, more focused learning environment at Alhambra High School. Computer science feels like learning a foreign language to me. I know with time, patience, and practice, I could learn, but what if I had been exposed at a much earlier age - it would be that much easier to feel confident about jumping in. Does anyone else feel that way?
