“Food as Medicine, to me and my organization [Sanitas Medical Center], is helping patients understand what food is, and how it plays an important role in impacting their health. One could say that it sometimes plays a bigger role than their medicines. It's basically helping our patients, and thereby helping our communities, understand what role food has in terms of their health.” - Dr. Rashi Sharma. Explore the deep connection between health and nutrition in our program, Food as Medicine, as highlighted in the latest article by The Common Market, featuring insights from Dr. Rashi Sharma 🥦🩺. A study recently published in JAMA Internal Medicine reports on the food-as-medicine program model in improving health while lowering healthcare costs. This follows research by PHI's Center for Wellness and Nutrition last year that documented the effectiveness of Healthy Food Rx, a home delivery service providing healthy, culturally familiar foods through the Stockton Food Bank that showed to have a positive and statistically significant impact for residents managing diabetes. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Kayla Doverspike, a #Registered #Dietitian who is swiftly becoming a leading #clinical #informatics expert. But her expertise doesn't stop there – Kayla also co-authored a white paper on malnutrition, published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In our seven-minute call, we delved into one of the most pressing medical challenges facing Americans today: #malnutrition. We discussed how dedicated clinicians like Kayla are striving to improve patient care by harnessing nutrition #data to drive meaningful #results. Tune in and join the conversation on how clinicians, like many in my network, are making a real difference in patient care with nutrition and data-driven approaches.

I am excited to meet all of you who have signed up for the upcoming Nutrition Foundations for Better Health - Back to Basics in Opelika, Birmingham, Prattville, Pensacola, Huntsville and Chattanooga! We are less than a week away from the first one of the year in Opelika, Alabama at the Opelika Public Library. Following are some answers to questions that I have received. 1. Are any seats left in Opelika? Yes! There are seats left and you can sign up at www.NFBH.health up to the morning of the event. There are also still seats available at the upcoming classes as well. 2. Is this class going to be mainly about weight loss? The short answer is "No", the long answer is...This course is NOT a weight loss seminar. It is a comprehensive course that dives into micronutrients and macronutrients (their function, food sources, deficiency symptoms and toxicity symptoms), how nutrition can affect not only our physical health (bone health, oral health, muscle health, cardiovascular health...you get the gist) but also our mental health. It also focuses on disease prevention and/or maintenance, social media and how it has changed how we learn about nutrition, common nutrition myths...and more! All evidence based, of course. 3. Is lunch provided? Lunch is not provided, but we will take an hour lunch break. You can enjoy a local restaurant or feel free to bring a lunch and stay at the library. For a detailed schedule, please visit www.NFBH.health If you have a question that was not answered here, please email me at nfbh23@gmail.com! See you soon!
