Like every year, we joined the global Kellen Leadership Summit, which this time took place from 20 to 22 August in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Hyatt Regency Louisville. It was a great opportunity to meet our colleagues from the US and China and connect face to face! It was a perfect combination of insights, sharing best practices, and discussing where we are now and where we want to go as a global company. We had the chance to listen to inspiring guest speakers, like the Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate Karen Gibson and President & CEO for Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI) Michael Dominguez, FASAE, CHSE, who shared their experiences as leaders and taught us about what efficient teams look like today and what its members expect from a leader. Some key takeaways from the keynotes on crisis leadership and team management: - The fundamental principles of crisis leadership can assist businesses ad organizations not only to survive a crisis, but potentially emerge even stronger. - Leading a team and team dynamics today have never been more challenging and complex. Understanding culture and importance of humility are the cornerstones of building an efficient and cohesive team. We always strive to make a strong impact for our associations and clients, no matter where we are from. 🌍We are #OneKellen.

As I walked the Camp Sawyer Trail and thought about the recent California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) Leadership Summit I recently attended, I was struck by how important reflection is for leaders. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities of our busy lives, but if we don’t stop and take time to listen deeply and learn, we can’t evolve as leaders. The two-day event started with an inspiring keynote from Peggy Flynn, who shared examples of how she utilized her expertise in communications to educate and connect community members as well as build relationships with state and civic leaders to deliver tremendous results for the cities and agencies she serves. Next, we participated in an informative and interactive session on leadership styles through the lens of Myers Briggs led by the masterful Nancy Hetrick. I appreciated the opportunity to discuss various styles of leadership with attendees and reflect on my style, thinking of ways that I could adjust interactions with team members to create stronger, more impactful connections and results. The second day of the Summit included a variety of sessions addressing key aspects of leadership development and practical resources. Carrie Braun and Jaimee Fletcher Blashaw reflected and shared insights on the need for compassion and a people-centered approach to crisis communications following a mass shooting. Jennifer Cabral reflected on her path, which may not have been in the order she expected, but ultimately led her to where she needed to be. Beyond the sessions, I had the opportunity to connect with Erica Ray Shelly Cone Ryder Todd Smith, and Morgan Mock to reflect on how the experiences and skills acquired throughout our lives have helped us make meaningful impacts in our current work. I still struggle with setting aside time for reflection but am thankful when I do. I return to the ‘why’ of my work and have a clarity of intent. Fellow leaders, I’d love to hear how you build in time for #reflection and how it transforms your work. #leadership #publicservice #communications #menlopark

"Where there is collective leadership, there is the power to make changes". In this blog my team at The Rockefeller Foundation shares three key insights from our recent work on thought leadership development. 1. Collective approaches to leadership development are most powerful when designed to elicit purposeful interaction. 2. Thought leadership is grounded in expertise and field-authority, but can flourish through a leader's authenticity and originality. 3. Learned leadership traits can be shaped through inter-organizational learning approaches, multi-dimensional feedback, and relationship-building. Many thanks to my colleague Shannon Hill for her leadership in this work. https://lnkd.in/ebJWim8W
