On our recent RealTalk, Angela Parker got real about extending employee volunteer impact beyond kits and numbers and the potential to do so with the Transformative Approach. 🌟 "In transformative volunteering, whether it's kits or painting or virtual volunteering, we give our volunteers direct access to empathy. This is where true impact is. 🤝 If our volunteers change the way they perceive the "other" and we begin to experience our sameness, we start to see "them" as "us". Breaking down barriers between "us" vs. "them" - that is activism. That is empathy-generating. 💡 This is the potential of volunteering. This is what we have access to." On our next RealTalk, we dive deeper into this concept of breaking down barriers between people through employee volunteering - this time in the context of racial injustice. Just a week prior to Juneteenth, we will take an honest look at the dark history of slavery in America and how its legacy persists through the unjust mass incarceration of Black people today. We'll explore the role we, as Social Impact professionals, can play in becoming proactively anti-racist as both companies and individuals. Can philanthropy competitions be equitable? 🤔 YES 🙌 We believe we provide a rare opportunity for organizations, particularly those with proximate or BIPOC—Black, Indigenous, and people of color—leadership, to compete based on their potential for impact rather than access to a funder’s network. Learn more about our approach in this Inside Philanthropy penned by our CEO: https://lnkd.in/gF5q6At

Today we celebrate #EarthDay. While everyone is affected by environmental issues, some communities are disproportionately impacted (i.e. Black, Hispanic, Indigenous & tribal communities). We're committed to amplifying the voices of all communities and sharing their insights for environmental justice action. Do you or your organization have a story about an environmental injustice where you live and how you have worked with your community to create a healthier, more just environment? By sharing your story, others can learn from your experience. We're seeking up to five collaborators (nonprofit organizations and/or individuals) from across the United States. Each collaborator will work with the center for up to three months and produce their story over the next year. Interested? Learn more and share your story: https://ow.ly/kLyx50RlE5z
