So many learnings about Operations….Do you want to know which ones ? ✅Expertise is foundation but Business is your final target ✅Customer centricity is not a claim, it’s a motto. And suppliers’ partnership a big part of the way. ✅Best asset is the teams. Unleash their magic is the definitive solution. ✅Operations have no gender. Talent is everywhere whatever your gender, your origin, your age, …. ✅Humb-bold. A mix of humility to “never stop learning" and fortitude because transformation need ambition   I would like to pay a special tribute to the amazing managers have met in my path at L'Oréal. Estee Lauder’s Fiscal 2023 results were out last week Not a pretty picture for a few key reasons Net sales down 10% Net earnings were over 50% less than last year Travel retail in Asia Pacific was highlighted as dragging down results Hainan & Korea duty free results are well below expectation especially in the biggest category skincare This brings many headaches especially stock issues which they say will normalize in 2024 Is it really just a duty free problem – no I have argued before that Estee Lauder’s portfolio is not as diversified as L’Oreal’s and they have not made enough bold, strategic investments or acquisitions of niche on trend brands. Buying Tom Ford brand may well be a good move in the long run but it does not serve to diversify their portfolio which could also benefit them in other markets USA has also been performing worse than expected – more competition from Indie brands What is your take – can Estee Lauder sustainably turn it around with their current portfolio or are the brands getting a bit dull? #esteelauder #beautybrands #skincare

Estee lauder Q2 results were better than expected Still being weighed down by Asia travel retail & China But they expect to be back to growth in the 2nd half 💡 Travel Retail inventory which has been a big issue is expected to normalise by April 💡 Chinese overseas travel is also expected to pick up in 2H 💡 Hong Kong has seen a positive rebound in tourism and retail sales which is expected to continue 💡China economic outlook is more positive for 2H, EL local strategy - switching more focus to Douyin, being less reliant on anniversarising Tmall 11.11 numbers & having over 12 months of reducing reliance on Daigous could all be a factor in being able to post growth in the next quarter Fundamentally there is still a portfolio issue for EL brands in China – they are talking about reviving Clinique – there is a strong opportunity here and lessons can be learnt from L’Oreal’s Helena Rubinstein success.
