Today, I want to highlight the importance of being intentional in recognizing and rectifying historical injustices. Major League Baseball (MLB) has taken a significant step by including the statistics of Black players who were previously excluded due to segregation. This long-overdue acknowledgment not only honors the incredible talent of these athletes but also sets a precedent for doing the right thing. One standout example is Josh Gibson, whose remarkable achievements were never fully recognized. In fact, Gibson's stats surpass those of legends like Babe Ruth. By including his and other Black players' records, we are finally giving them the recognition they deserve. Let's continue to strive for fairness and inclusivity in ALL aspects of life! We still have a long way to go!! full video here (snip of video attached) https://lnkd.in/exGjmkQn #MLB #Inclusion #HistoricalJustice #JoshGibson #IntentionalActions #recognition #honor #beintentional

Baseball legend Reggie Jackson recently made a powerful statement during a pregame broadcast, sharing his experiences of racism and segregation during his time in the Southern League. His words highlighted the painful history of segregation and discrimination that Black players faced in the Major League Baseball (MLB) and beyond. Jackson's story, which included references to the Birmingham bombing and the racial segregation he faced, served as a stark reminder of the struggles faced by Black players in the MLB. Despite the MLB's efforts to honor the Negro Leagues, the reality of the present-day MLB is that the number of Black players has significantly decreased, with no native-born Black players in the 2022 World Series. This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of anti-diversity laws and book bans in preserving the history of racism and discrimination. It also highlights the need for a deeper understanding of the historical context of the MLB and the ongoing struggle for equality in the sport. What are your thoughts on the role of diversity in sports and the impact of anti-diversity laws on the representation of Black players in the MLB? On today’s Black History Month edition of “Who signed this off??”… One of the more ergrigious posts I’ve seen from a brand I’ve loved my entire life, The Premier League. Don’t get me wrong, Mo Salah is definitely a Premier League hero, a legend and a magnificent football player. But one thing he most definitely is not, is Black. The Premier League has a wealth of Black heroes to celebrate. Whether the glaringly obvious choices like Thierry Henry, Rio Ferdinand or Didier Drogba, or the “Streets Won’t Forget” players like Hugo Rodellega and Asamoah Gyan. But in the ONE MONTH reserved for celebrating Black Excellence, they chose to celebrate non-Black player. When we talk about Black erasure, this is a prime example. Racism isn’t just abusive and derogatory language, it’s also an absence of acknowledgement. Despite a barrage of criticism, the Premier League stood by their decision unapologetically (this screenshot is today years old). A blatant disregard for the Black players who helped make the Premier League the most exciting and profitable football league in the world, and its Black fans with one horribly misguided post. Another shining example of the calamities that come with a non-diverse workforce. #premierleague #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #Football #DEI

One of the finest examples of #PayItForward, creating a ripple effect of #support and #allyship. This is why I intentionally carve out time for #WomenLeadership programs, for #SocialSector organisations creating an impact, or even pro bono time for those working with the #LGBTG community. Sometimes all we need is one person 👉to believe in us, 👉to give us the time or day 👉to shine the light on the path ahead So, if you are A #women seeking a path ahead, I will always create a coaching or counselling slot for you on my calendar If you are an adult wondering if you are #neurodivergent, or have a loved one who may be neurodivergent and don’t know where to get started, I am happy to have a chat to share what I know and point you towards the right resources #InspireChange
Dawn Staley's third title has made her the first Black coach in college basketball history to win three national titles and lead a team to an undefeated season. Who inspired Staley? Trailblazing coach Carolyn Peck became the first Black female coach to win a NCAA Division I basketball title. With this win she also became one of only four coaches to win a championship within their first two seasons as head coach. And Peck paid it forward, sharing the net with those who came next. “Carolyn Peck, a few years ago when she was commentating, she gave me a piece of her [1999 game winning] net,” Staley said. “She told me to keep it. I’ve had it in my wallet for years.” This is the power of #womensupportingwomen.

Today marks a significant milestone in history as we recognize the establishment of the Negro National League in 1920, the first Black professional baseball league. It's a powerful reminder of the barriers Black players faced, with exclusion from mainstream leagues dating back to 1867. Baseball, often considered America's pastime, was not just a game for Black players—it was a battleground for recognition as Americans. You can learn more about this historic moment by clicking the link: [Negro National League Founded](https://lnkd.in/eEtKhaKE). At LEAD Center For Youth, we honor their legacy and resilience, striving to empower the next generation through sports-based youth development. Since 2007, our mission has been to equip Black youth with the tools to overcome societal barriers and lead transformative lives. Through our Pathway2Empowerment programming, we focus on athletics, academics, civic engagement, and commerce, instilling the values of perseverance and excellence. What lessons do you think we can learn from the history of the Negro National League? Let's discuss and honor the contributions of Black players to the sport and our nation's history."

Remember these names: Saka, Palmer, Bellingham, Toney, Alexander-Arnold. Not just for their goals, but for their courage and for proactively rewriting the narrative. Three years ago, hate overshadowed Black footballers' talent. Isn't it ironic that a sport celebrating skill and teamwork can be so stained by bias? Yet, this England team refused silence. Their win is a stark reminder: to deny talent it’s due is a loss for all - regardless of skin colour. The football field mirrors our professional landscape. Unconscious bias can sideline exceptional Black colleagues, hindering both individual growth and company success. Let's cultivate environments for Black excellence to thrive in every corner of our workplaces, not just on scoreboards. Saka and his teammates remind us of the impact of superseding performative gestures. Let's take diversity and inclusion personally and champion such initiatives with genuine purpose. May their resilience be yet another reminder that change is everyone’s responsibility - those on the pitch and those in the stands. Even when the whistle blows and the game is over, the fight for equality has just begun.
