As a leadership expert with a specific interest in the implications of race and culture on leadership, Black History and Black History Month are particularly impactful to me. To be truly astute and effective as a leader, one must understand others' backgrounds and history. Understanding the true history and presence of Blacks in America and around the world is critical for any exemplary leader. Therefore, this month, we pause to highlight the accomplishments and shed light on the struggle of Blacks in America, both past and president. Black History Month is an annual observance created in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson that originated as a week-long celebration, coinciding with the birthdays of Fredrick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Over the years, the observance increased in popularity throughout the US; and in 1969, ‘Black United’ students at Kent State University proposed extending the celebration to a month. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated is proud to both honor the Extraordinary Black women from our past who have paved the way for progress, and pay tribute to those Finer women who are shaping our future by making history each and everyday! Join us as we pay homage to our trailblaZers past, present and future and remind the world that Black History is more than just a month. Black History is the world’s history and it should be celebrated everyday throughout the year! #zetaphibeta #bhm #blackhistorymonth #embracetheextraordinary #honoringthepast #shapingthefuture
