How Long Is Too Long? Unlock the Perfect CV Length for Your Career! 📝🔍
I’ve seen countless CVs come across my desk. And what thoughts are usually in my head:
“Can’t find this... Does he actually have design experience?”
“One year is not enough... Maybe other experience isn't mentioned?"
“We need her previous experience! Scroll down... more... more... here it is, excellent, what we are looking for!”
The most common question I ask myself: "What is the perfect CV length?" Of course, the answer isn’t straightforward—it depends on your career stage and industry standards.
Let’s explore this together! It’s simple to suggest: more experience usually means a longer CV. 💡🧩
**Entry-Level Professionals (0-2 Years of Experience) 🎓**
Imagine you’re a recent graduate with a degree in civil engineering. You’ve completed an internship where you assisted with project management on a construction site.
In this case, a 1-page CV is usually sufficient. Highlight your education, key coursework, and any hands-on experience.
**Mid-Level Professionals (3-10 Years of Experience) 💼**
Let’s say you’re a mechanical engineer with 5 years of experience in building services. You’ve worked on several significant projects and have some specialized certifications.
A 2-page CV is appropriate. Detail your roles and achievements, qualifications, main projects, competencies, and education.
Also, add some unique skills, personal activities or hobbies, military service, or management success if you have them. This helps to understand you better and find your perfect job.
**Senior-Level Professionals (10+ Years of Experience) 👔**
If you’re a senior operations manager with over a decade of experience, including leadership roles and major projects, a 2–3-page CV might be necessary.
Focus on your strategic impact and mentorship roles, but also show the journey you’ve been on.
Highlight how you’ve gained experience step by step and become the professional you are today.
Especially in engineering and building services, clarity and precision are crucial. Your CV should be easy to read, with clearly defined sections and bullet points to break up the text.
Use industry-specific terminology and quantify your achievements wherever possible.
Reviewing CVs is like reading the story behind the words—the story of a professional career’s evolution. But only the most important information helps to tell it in the best possible way!
Take a moment to review your CV. 🎨🔍
Is it a masterpiece, or are there some key points missing?
Does it paint a clear picture, or are there too many blurry details?
