Challenges and Opportunities for Improving General Education in Cambodia
This paper analyzes the current state of education in Cambodia, a developing country in Southeast Asia with a history of civil war and political instability. Despite the progress made in increasing access to primary education, the paper identifies several factors that limit the quality and equity of general education, such as insufficient funding, unqualified teachers, low achievement, and high dropout. The paper argues that these factors have negative implications for the human capital, economic growth, and social cohesion of Cambodia. The paper also suggests some potential solutions and recommendations, such as increasing public investment, enhancing teacher training, improving learning assessment, and reducing barriers to completion.
