Lots of hype and reviews in recent weeks about the Apple Vision Pro. Here is another review where the reviewer had tried it for a week. https://lnkd.in/d9-GXk7C Instead of calling Apple Vision Pro a MR (AR + VR) headset, Apple called it Spatial Computing. AR and VR have been around for decades but have not caught on into the mainstream. The reasons may be that the hardware technology is not adequate yet and not enough useful applications. This first version of Apple Vision Pro suffers the same fate. Nevertheless, Apple has brought forward this futuristic technology nearer to practicality. Imaging our world which can have multi-layers of realities or multiverse. How awesome and exciting will that be. It expands our finite world into an infinite possibility. It is just a matter of time when the hardware technology catches up and enough useful applications to get this MR into the mainstream adoption. So far since Steve Jobs had retaken to lead Apple and now Tim Cook, Apple has not been unsuccessful in any major product category. Even with the Apple Watch which has its fair share of doubt for this product initially, it is pretty popular now and Apple has reignited the smart watch trend. Therefore, I believe Apple will reignite the AR, VR and/or Metaverse trend moving forward. So, what do you think about Apple Vision Pro? Friends, in case you are wondering about what Vision Pro and spatial computing means for enterprises, please read this article - will appreciate your feedback. Despite all the negative publicity around XR devices and the 'M' word :), I am a firm believer that this marks the "iPhone moment" for HMD devices. If you have not experienced the future, please give it a try, I can assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised. When iPhone was released in 2007, I was one of the early adopters. I purchased my first Macbook, developed and published a couple of apps on the App store in 2009-11 timeframe. I am getting the same excitement and feeling now. From the release of iPhone to iPhone now, think of the immense possibilities of the future along the same lines, when the form factor reaches a point of comfortable continuous wearing for many hours at a time. IMHO, it is a given that our relationship with machines is going to change - it will likely not be a revolution, but a gradual (sometimes accelerated) evolution. With fast emerging GenAI capabilities, left AI brain seems to have found the missing right AI brain, so lack of content issues will go away. Combining GenAI, XR, IoT, spatial technologies, and web is where a lot of action is going to be in the coming years, for consumers, for enterprises, for industries. Also, got a chance to experience the "What if.. " app from ILM Immersive (my first job that I hold dear to my heart), give it a try to see how immersive story telling is evolving. Cheers!

Really enjoyed speaking with Christopher Mims for his piece in The Wall Street Journal about how Apple Vision Pro works as a productivity device. I’ve been using it daily since launch, and have been having a great time learning the design patterns and interaction model introduced in visionOS. I've tried using other VR headsets for daily work—mirroring a computer monitor, or 3D modeling in Gravity Sketch—but in every case the display resolution and limited inputs were instantly disqualifying. Vision Pro easily solves resolution shortcomings with an incredibly dense display in a relatively narrow field-of-view, but its real innovation is in how the system brings windowed applications into 3D space. The ideas introduced with this product are simultaneously a radical reimagining of how a computer should look and work, but also the most pure realization of what the original Macintosh (and the Alto) set out to accomplish with the "desktop" metaphor we've been using for 40 years. Itself a massive rethinking of computer interfaces, the mouse and graphical bitmapped display have endured as our proxies for interacting with digital objects. INSIGHT of the day: Apple Vision Pro is coming out I hate journalists who can draw the future of new devices. Do not believe any of this. Let developers play with it, create apps and then see how consumers react. Then Apple will create a new Vision Pro release, with hopefully a lower price. Of course having none of big OTT apps not supporting natively Vision Pro will create additional headwind and push Apple into a vertical integration, which BTW they are very good at. https://lnkd.in/gPC8bkNe In summary, give Vision Pro time. The Apple Vision Pro is supposed to be the start of a new spatial computing revolution. After several days of testing, it’s clear that it’s the best headset ever made — which is the problem.

It is obvious that it has a high cost, that perhaps not everyone can access them yet, that there is not yet a huge catalogue of apps to do a multitude of things with them. But there is no doubt that if Apple is taking the plunge, it is because there is a market ready to consume. It is because the Spatial generation has arrived to coexist with the AI generation. And that any company that does not want to be left behind will need to start thinking in three-dimensional and spatial terms as soon as possible. Real-world considerations for mass market traction… “I keep coming back to all the questions I’ve been asking myself ever since I first strapped the Vision Pro onto my head. Starting, of course, with the most important: * Do you want a computer that messes up your hair every time you use it? * Do you want a computer that smears your makeup every time you use it, if you wear makeup? * Do you want a computer that allows the Walt Disney Company to prevent you from taking pictures of what you see? * Do you want to use a computer where you easily can’t show anyone else what you’re looking at? * Do you think the fanciest TV you own should have HDMI inputs? * Do you want to use a computer that doesn’t work as well in a dark room? * Do you want to use a computer that is always looking at your hands? That is a lot of tradeoffs — big tradeoffs, not little ones. And the biggest tradeoff of all is that using the Vision Pro is such a lonely experience, regardless of the weird ghost eyes on the front. You’re in there, having experiences all by yourself that no one else can take part in. After using the Vision Pro for a while, I’ve come to agree with what Tim Cook has been saying for so long: headsets are inherently isolating. That’s fine for traditional VR headsets, which have basically turned into single-use game consoles over the past decade, but it’s a lot weirder for a primary computing device.
