TSMC's Revenue Forecast:  Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has revised its 2024 revenue forecast upwards due to the increasing demand for AI application chips. The company now expects growth slightly above 20%, reflecting the robust AI market. Meta and Apple's EU Regulatory Challenges:  Both Meta and Apple have decided not to launch their new AI models in the European Union, citing regulatory concerns. This move highlights the growing tension between tech companies and EU regulations regarding AI deployment. SoftBank Acquires Graphcore:  SoftBank has acquired Graphcore, a leading British AI chipmaker, for approximately $600 million. This acquisition is part of SoftBank's strategy to strengthen its AI capabilities and technological assets. AI's Economic Impact in the UK:  Workday reports that AI could potentially boost UK productivity by £119 billion, addressing the nation’s long-standing productivity challenges. Of course a fantastic read, but a teaser with some of the main points below: The competition in the AI race is still wide open, with major investments and efforts happening not just in the US and China, but also in the UAE and other parts of the world. Germany's risk-averse culture and lack of strategic risk-taking is hindering its ability to fully capitalize on AI opportunities, especially in key industries like automotive and pharmaceuticals. Regulatory approaches like the "sandbox" model used in Abu Dhabi, which allows testing and iterating on regulations, could be a better approach than rigid, prescriptive rules. Taiwan's tech sector struggled in 2023, except for companies focused on artificial intelligence. As part of its Top 2000 Survey, CommonWealth English 天下雜誌英文網 identified six #Taiwanese companies that have benefited significantly from NVIDIA’s #AI boom. NVIDIA is on the cusp of becoming the world’s most valuable company, and it’s not just driven because of technology. IMO their ascent at this stage is powered by the strategic, long-term partnerships they’re forging globally. This is extremely important. I think these alliances are setting them up not just to reach it, but to maintain their position at the top for an extended period.
