What an enormous privilege to present at the Awards Ceremony of my former high school as the Keynote Speaker. It was exhilarating to see the academic and musical talent of the young people. What would I say to my 17-year-old self if I could travel back 30 years? Here are seven points I felt Scottish high school students might want to consider: 1. When you leave high school, you have a clean slate 2. It’s okay to change your mind 3. You will experience failures. It’s okay to fail 4. Don’t compare yourself to others 5. Embrace imposter syndrome 6. Find a mentor: “When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready, the teacher will disappear.” 7. Be authentic. #ForresterHighSchool

“Slow down, you move too fast”— a summer anthem. ⚫️Why do we grow programming before infrastructure? Or funding? ⚫️How come our big ideas are easier to come by than the culture required to ground it? ⚫️Why do we expand more naturally than we contract? (Boards too!) Spend some time journaling. Listen to music. Get your reflective groove on. Reflection. Intention. Strategy. Action. It’s a cycle. It’s a marathon. It’s not a sprint. Endurance matters. Slow down, you’re moving to fast. No need to bypass the moment. Make it last. https://lnkd.in/g4rR6xbh

In cooperation with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and a restaurant in our area, my action team plans to do a fundraiser. Funds will be used to build a scholarship to help low-income children, who wish to learn how to play an instrument, to rent or buy instruments and receive private lessons. We plan to use the $250.00 to rent a restaurant and help to cater a dinner, which the money raised, along with the revenue raised on the Thrivent Fundraiser Website, will be donated to the scholarship we started last year. My team will be working the room on the night of the event to raise more funds. I will be working the internet to increase funds prior to the event, and to get reservations for the dinner. The symphony CEO and others will be working their network to get participation in the event and on the fundraising website. The outcomes we are planning on are as follows: 1. Build enough revenue to offer between 10 and 15 full scholarships to the Youth Symphony Orchestra for students under 150% of the poverty level, this includes lessons and instruments...cost = $5,000.00 to $7,500.00. 2. Give some marginalized youth an opportunity they wouldn't have otherwise had. 3. Breakdown, if only slightly, the disadvantages kids from smaller rural and mid-city youth have, with regard to musicianship in their pre-high school years (most school districts have eliminated their music and arts programs in the elementary and middle school levels). 4. Create a minor, though important, economic impact for those marginalized youth. In Support Of Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra https://lnkd.in/e-8V-pTG

In this episode of Arts Engines with Aaron Dworkin, we're diving deep into the world of music, community, and leadership. Jonathan Martin, President & CEO of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, shares insights on leading an orchestra in service to its community. Music organizations often strive to serve the art of music but can face challenges in connecting with their communities. It's crucial for nonprofits to address community needs, especially when they're collecting funds. If there's a disconnect, it's time to redefine what community truly means and embrace change. Convincing stakeholders to embrace change can be challenging, but for Martin, it's about doing what's right, seizing artistic opportunities, and addressing economic disparities, especially with an aging generation. The power of music to bring people together is magical, and every decision in the music-making process has an impact, from the artists on stage to the ones discovered. To foster innovation, look beyond the music realm for inspiration. Music leaders must break out of the bubble and explore diverse influences, transcending classical music genres. #MusicLeadership #CommunityEngagement #Innovation #Arts #Culture #Cincinnati #Orchestra #Inspiration #Music #Leadership #Ohio #Community #Service

How to enhance the provision of the Arts in your primary school 🎨 Limited financial resources and a lack of expertise in art, drama, and music can contribute to a decline in the quality and quantity of these subjects in your primary school. However, there are effective strategies that can address these challenges. ➡️ Implement Cross-Curricular Learning- Art subjects provide a unique opportunity to foster creativity. Discover innovative ways to incorporate drama into literacy lessons or integrate music into modern foreign languages. ➡️ Seek Inspiration from your Surroundings- Art can be created using everyday materials, such as old cereal boxes or sticks from the playground, which are readily available at no cost. For more insights on improving the arts program in your primary school, we invite you to read our latest blog post: https://bit.ly/3SoDCjU
