PE Teachers... These comments from Pink have triggered some thoughts about our practice in PE... - How mindful are we of the impact on our actions, languages and behaviours in relation to body shape / size / image? - Do we have an unconscious bias towards students of a particular (athletic / lean / muscular) body type? - Does this have an impact on who we select to represent the school in extra-curricular competitions? - Does this bias become greater if the primary driver for the event is outcome driven i.e. do we select more "able", fit and experienced students in order to maximise the chances of winning? - What impact does this have on those that do not get selected on their self esteem & relationship with that sport and physical activity more broadly? - I fully support females being feminine and males being masculine, if that is how they feel about themselves. - I am also ok with deviations from these gender norms and support any student choosing to express themselves differently (such as Pink). This is the same for more feminine boys as well as more masculine girls. - I am concerned about the way some in society try to police certain aspects of gender expression, where it does not align to what they believe to be the norm. - All children should be able to feel safe in PE, feel positive about their body and their gender expression, without outdated stereotypes being reinforced (be it subconsciously or otherwise), so that they feel accepted and validated and not some how made to feel a sense of shame about their identity.

I love how strong #Pink is. Initially, when I first saw her acrobatics, I loved them, and also wondered what had prompted her to cultivate such a physique. I ran some possible scenarios through psychology frameworks, then STOPPED. I felt unwilling to continue down this path to get my internal question answered. Instead, I started looking up interviews. In one, Pink talks about her desire to engage in acrobatics, and how people told her not to, or discouraged her, but she practiced anyway. In a very difficult area, she built strength, to be the best at what she loves to do. As for how her strength looks on her frame, that genetics. If we want to know something; it’s wise to go straight to the source and ask directly. Even journalism is not necessarily a reliable source; per se. (I’m specifically referring to fringe groups; or special interest outlets; or any Zine.) A writer is going to present an extrapolation of the data they consumed, from their perspective. Healthy writing, is often reviewed by an editor, and team. (Some of my favorite articles are in #NIH, National Institutes of Health, which are peer reviewed by licensed professionals.) Pink is who she is, unapologetically. She looks how she looks, based on her genetics and her physical training. She is fierce, and promotes beauty in all their many forms.

Our kids' radar and communication systems pick up on spoken and unspoken belief systems and thoughts. Subtle negative programming hits them daily. What untrue beliefs have they absorbed and held onto from family, school mates, teachers, online heros/sheros, TV shows, etc. Watch and listen closely. Help correct the thoughts before they become negative belief systems. The most basic belief system is structured like a 🌳: Negative Program, with Limiting Beliefs, Faulty Core Beliefs, and at times, Faulty Core Identities (formed in early childhood). The good news is, should a negative program take hold, a Certified Belief Code Practitioner can help correct it, identifying and clearing components, releasing the system "tree" entirely.
