The smarter E Europe 2024 was held in Munich, Germany. KGCCI (AHK Korea), representing The Smarter E Europe in Korea, attended the event at Messe Muenchen to visit the exhibition and conference, engage in meetings with organizers, and support Korean exhibitors. The Korea Pavilion, organized by the Korea New Renewable Energy Association (KNREA), featured 10 co-exhibitors in Hall A3 of Intersolar Europe. This year, a dedicated booth at the Korea Pavilion was set up to facilitate smoother visitor reception and support on-site business meetings. Additionally, the InterBattery Showcase, organized by KBIA, KOTRA, and Coex, was held in conjunction with ees Europe for the second consecutive year. This showcase enabled global battery industry professionals to establish crucial contacts with South Korean battery and equipment industry suppliers. Over the three days, the exhibition provided an excellent platform for more than 3,008 exhibitors and approximately 110,000 visitors from 176 countries to present and explore the latest trends in renewable 24/7 energy supply. As Europe's largest platform for the energy industry, The Smarter E Europe encompasses four individual exhibitions: Intersolar Europe, ees Europe, Power2Drive Europe, and EM-Power Europe. The Energy Ministers, Dignitaries, NECs, and IECs embarked on a VIP ministerial tour of the Future Energy Asia and Future Mobility Asia Exhibition 2024. Musings after visiting two significant exhibitions and industry congregations!!.. Returning from the REI EXPO 24 which is arguably the most significant conference and exhibition for the energy transition sector in the country, i am filled with optimism on what the future holds for the industry at large and how we adapt to the fast changing ecosystem. The exhibition this year was a fascinating mix of collaboration, ambition, and a sense of bullish energy with the usual industry leaders having upped their game and going head to head with the ultra large business houses who have over the last couple of years taken extreme interest in the energy transition sector and have built a formidable tech arsenal with collabs and strategic investments and are on the anvil of launching their proven scaling up missiles. Some apparent takeaways:- A. Plain Vanilla Solar PV / Wind / Hybrid will phase out, (Round the clock) renewable energy is the solution and is only a matter of time. B. Utility scale BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) is the buzzing sector with record breaking capacities already bid out, but is not bereft of its risks with certain early movers having very little head room and have made substantial contractual commitments, the optimised technology has to work from day one with very little head room for stabilisation!!.. C. Solar PV technology efficiency growth is seeing some saturation unless perovskite and HJT individually or in tandem takes some quick strides in commercialisation. (The ultra large business houses have shown some credible technology leadership by committing to these and by pnot just following the herd). D. Connectivity on ISTS and STU level needs a revolutionary approach as it seems that could be the “Kamzor Kadi” (weak link) in the entire ecosystem, its inability , however quick it might be, to keep up with the breakneck speed of the energy transition sector could be the limiting factor. E. Raise the funds and raise the game:- Another obvious undertone from the conference was the ability of credible players to raise unprecedented value of funds to push their growth goals. Its clear that the energy transition sector is not just evolving—it’s accelerating at an unprecedented pace with very intense innovation. A brief conversation in the morning between my colleague Stephan de Ruijter and me in preparation for our visit to E-world energy & water in Essen next week. 👀 An important trade fair that will further sharpen our focus on developments in the #energyindustry. What do their trends mean for #emobility? With smart EV charging infrastructure, we at go-e are trying to build bridges between a wide range of industries, including the #automotive and energy sectors. 🚗 ⚡ I had the opportunity to inform myself about the current status of #EV manufacturers at the eCarExpo Stockholm just over a week ago. Now let's move on to the #energy sector. A close link between the two sectors seems important to me, particularly in order to counter the still widespread prejudices against e-mobility. After all, the success of the mobility transition is closely linked to the advancement of the energy transition. Cooperations 🤝 around smart overall solutions and renewable energies are in demand. Just charging the EV and meeting different use cases is not enough. 🛑 👉 Drivers want the certainty that there will always be enough affordable electricity available when they need it, even if almost everyone in our society drives an electric car. A number of smart features for charging electric vehicles are already available or are in the pipeline. Here are some examples: 🌍 💳 Shifting charging sessions to periods when there is a surplus of renewable energy and electricity is therefore particularly cheap ☀ 🚗 Local use of decentrally generated electricity 🔌 🏡 And what will come after bidirectional charging? The storage industry nevertheless rejoices at the fall in price of #batteries while the classic #Utilities are being challenged by new innovations such as “balcony solar”
