MENTORS: As we have entered a new year with a new group of new interns, this is a time to R-E-F-L-E-C-T. Reignite your commitment to making the experiences of your interns amazing. Enjoy getting to know your interns as individuals and not just the work they can do for you. Free your interns to fully contribute to the “team” in their creativity, enthusiasm, and innovation. Listen a little more Enthusiasm in the mission you serve to help your interns reach and meet their goals. Communicate with your interns on their successes just as much as their improvements. Continue to teach and prepare your interns for whatever life has for them in and out of professional circles.

Second year here we go! 📚 Super stoked to now begin the second year of university in my degree apprenticeship! Studying is no doubt among my favourite parts of this apprenticeship, and I look forward to studying some modules that are directly related to my previous and current team rotations.⭐️ I’m coming with a fresh mindset this year, having learned A LOT in first year. Here are 3 things i’m doing different: 🙅🏼♀️ Setting boundaries 🙅🏼♀️ In my first year, I really felt the pressure of juggling work with nearing assignment deadlines. As a degree apprentice, it’s really important to set boundaries at work so you can work on completing assignments. Your study is part of your programme, and you should have opportunities to focus on your assignments. ⭕️ 📗 Reading extra on my modules 📗 Doing my own reading around the modules I studied really helped with not only my assignments, but has actually helped me understand the work I’m producing. It’s always great to go beyond the bare minimum. 🚀 📖 Creating pre-notes 📖 I am making the habit of reviewing my lecture notes and seminars before my study day. This allows me to absorb more information as I’m already finding it familiar. 😊 Bring it, second year!

We're excited to extend a warm welcome to our newest addition to the HR team, Mayadevi Rajkoomar, our HR Apprentice! We had the opportunity to ask Mayadevi some questions. Get to know Mayadevi Rajkoomar with us! ❓ What's been your favourite part of being an apprentice here so far? 📣 The most rewarding aspect of being an apprentice has been the daily opportunity to acquire new knowledge and the chance to connect with diverse individuals. ❓Can you share a moment where you felt like you really learned something new? 📣Every day presents an opportunity for growth, as much of what I'm learning is entirely new. I truly appreciate the patience and guidance my colleagues have provided throughout this process. ❓How do you balance learning on the job with your other responsibilities? 📣I prioritise my most important tasks in the morning before work and complete the rest during the evening. ❓What's one thing you're excited to achieve by the end of your apprenticeship? 📣By the end of my apprenticeship, I'm eager to apply the skills I've gained to new projects and take on additional responsibilities. ❓How do you stay motivated when faced with challenges during your apprenticeship? 📣When challenges arise, I focus on finding ways to improve and maintain motivation by embracing the learning process, acknowledging that mistakes are part of growth. We warmly welcome Mayadevi to our team and wish her every success as she embarks on this journey with us.

Training interns is like herding cats. Except the cats have Wi-Fi and too many questions. But here’s the catch: The best intern training doesn’t start with control. It begins with chaos. Let them explore, experiment, even stumble. That’s where real learning lives. Tips to avoid chaos becoming...well, an actual disaster. ⏩ Set clear expectations from day one ⏩ Give them real projects, not just busy work ⏩ Regular feedback—don't wait until it’s too late ⏩ Let them fail while your senior staff has their back Let the interns fly, but be ready to catch them. How do you ensure the next generation grows into industry rockstars?

Sometimes taking that scary step can lead to something special! In this week’s episode of The F Word, we’re joined by our very own, Jessica Crook! This is a notable ep for us, getting to chat to Jess, who has seen Whyfield through it all over the past ten years. Jess joined us as an apprentice in our tiny broom-cupboard-sized office of three staff, and then quickly moved her way up, gaining qualifications, taking on responsibilities, and guiding the team on her way. Now, she’s our Director of People and Development with a team of 20 (and no longer in that tiny office), a Shareholder, and a mum! We get to hear Jess’ journey through her roles, why apprenticeships are a brilliant way to dive into the world of work, how she’s seen Whyfield evolve over the years, and how she’s navigating life with her beautiful Son, Harrison, while on a phased return to work. We hope you enjoy episode 20! Both YouTube and Spotify links can be found in the comments! #FirstEmployee #Director #Growth #Apprenticeships #Accounting #EmpoweringSuccess

High school can be a tough journey, and for many students, one of the biggest challenges is feeling prepared for life after graduation. In fact, nearly 75% of high schoolers don’t feel fully ready for college or their careers. This article really resonated with me because it highlights a crucial gap we need to address as educators. We must provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, discover their passions, and connect their learning to real-world experiences.
