#latestactivities Alliance for Justice: Pioneers in upholding justice and equality In the annals of American history, certain organizations stand out as beacons of progress and defenders of justice. Among them, the Alliance for Justice (AFJ) shines brightly, a testament to decades of unwavering commitment to upholding the values of equality, fairness, and constitutional rights. Origins and Mission The seeds of AFJ were sown in the turbulent year of 1971, a time when the "Powell Memo" sounded the alarm on perceived threats to the American economic system. Recognizing the call to arms for the business community to influence the courts, AFJ emerged as a bulwark against the weaponization of justice for corporate interests. Founded in 1979 by the indefatigable attorney and activist Nan Aron, AFJ was a response to the encroaching specter of far-right ideologies threatening to erode decades of hard-won progressive achievements. With a vision of a judiciary that mirrors the diversity of the nation and safeguards the rights of all its citizens, AFJ embarked on a mission to ensure that justice remains blind to influence and privilege. As we observe Juneteenth, the AAMC recognizes the significance of this day in American history and the importance of reflecting on our collective journey toward equality. June 19 marks the true end of slavery in the United States, a crucial moment when Major General Gordon Granger and Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. Yet, nearly 160 years later, we continue to strive for the fundamental promise of ‘liberty and justice for all.’ Systemic change requires more than new rules; it demands personal accountability, education, courage, and the willingness to engage in difficult conversations. We must unlearn long-held societal norms and confront the ways historical injustices shape today's inequalities. As Frederick Douglass wisely noted, “The life of the nation is secure only while the nation is honest, truthful, and virtuous.” Let us seize this moment to commit to creating a future where equity and justice are realities for all. #Juneteenth #Equity #AcademicMedicine #SocialJustice

Gove’s new definition of ‘Extremism’ It is worth quoting in full. “Extremism is the promotion or advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred or intolerance, that aims to: 1. negate or destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of others; or 2. undermine, overturn or replace the UK’s system of liberal parliamentary democracy and democratic rights; or 3. intentionally create a permissive environment for others to achieve the results in (1) or (2).” It is not a legal definition, therefore does not need to be followed. The words “based on” will provide an avenue of distinction, escape or defence. However, it is high time that England’s gentle tolerant society is protected from extremists.

Geoff Smith, Thanks for sharing. Average citizens are oblivious to the degree the legal profession and in particular judges are contributing to the creation of a very dangerous all powerful authoritarian corporate plutocracy. This is partly through the unjust wealth advantage inherent to the adversarial method and partly through decisions like Buckley and Citizens United that erode the foundations of democratic representation. Just as church and state should be divided so too should corporate interests and the state. As we are clearly seeing play out before our eyes a defacto corporate run state is an immoral, socially irresponsible and dangerously unconstitutional state. In addition to its economic role, a good, healthy and just state is responsible for the balanced maintenance of society and the needs of the people. Shareholder theory, neoliberal economic reform, massive deregulation and the inevitable corporate coup d’tat have brought us full circle to where America was before the American revolution, controlled by an authoritarian elite. It’s just a matter of time before we the people get to see the real reasons for militarizing the police with surplus military equipment and weapons. In Solidarity ❤️🩹🪶

The Grand Facilitator - Connecting Ambition with Opportunity - Strategic architect of organizational growth, leveraging expertise in talent acquisition to shape high-performing teams.
On this day 246 years ago, the Second Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act stating: "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." From Betsy Ross's legendary creation to the 50 stars on the flag today representing each state in our nation, Old Glory has become an enduring symbol of American ideals - liberty, democracy, and the never-ending pursuit of justice and equality for all. While the flag has gone through redesigns over the centuries as new states joined, its core meaning has remained constant - representing the indomitable American spirit of courage, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to freedom. On Flag Day, we honor the powerful ideals embedded in those stars and stripes. We celebrate the hard-fought journey of progress to continually push America to live up to its founding promise of liberty and justice for all. So fly your flags high today and every day. For the flag is a living symbol, calling on us all to protect and uphold the values that have illuminated America's path for nearly 250 years. #FlagDay #FlagDayUSA #OldGlory #AmericanFlag #Patriotism #Liberty #Democracy #Equality #Lee

Emily Bobenrieth Thank you and your colleagues for your essential work in this area. As we have all observed, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has actively and continuously engaged in "Unrestricted Warfare" since coming to power in the mid-20th century. They have done so to compensate for their military disadvantages and, of course, to avoid the high costs, across many dimensions, of armed conflict. It's abundantly clear that the CCP continues to adapt its overall strategy to engage in activities short of armed conflict. Activities that fall into these (and other) interrelated conflict categories include information warfare, legal warfare, economic warfare, psychological warfare, technology competition, military posturing, espionage, and, more recently, cyber warfare. As you know, two PLA colonels introduced the concept of "Unrestricted Warfare" in the mid-1990s. It drew upon the strategic principles laid out by Sun Tzu in "The Art of War," where he emphasized, among other things, the importance and strategic advantages of securing victory through non-traditional means, often without engaging in direct combat. Thank you again for helping to build the scholarly foundation that will inform and influence senior leaders in the national security arena and beyond.
May 13-14, 2024, MAJ Emily Bobenrieth, Associate Professor, National Security Law Department (ADN) and LTC Eddie Gonzalez, incoming Chair, ADN, attended the second annual Future of Warfare and the Law Symposium in Austin, TX hosted by Army Futures Command, the Lieber Institute for Law and Warfare, and UT Austin’s Strauss Center for International Security and Law. This two-day Symposium brought together active duty and former judge advocates, civilian practitioners, private industry, academics, and scientists to discuss various aspects of the future operational environment to include AI and electromagnetic warfare. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore cutting edge research, application of the law of war, and create connections accross many disciplines!

🌟 New Blog Alert: This Week in USBP History 🌟 Good morning, LinkedIn community! This week on our blog, we delve into the Moral Foundations Theory, offering valuable insights into diverse viewpoints. This exploration is not just about addressing workplace challenges; it's a crucial step in combating the cynicism that can arise from conflicting perspectives. By understanding and valuing different viewpoints, we foster a more inclusive and cooperative environment, crucial for our collective progress and morale. Our historical journey this week begins with no entries on January 28th and 29th, but quickly gains momentum with significant events from our past. On January 30, 1928, the El Paso Border Patrol inspectors collectively demonstrated their unity and high morale. January 31, 1939, marks a simpler time in our organizational history with the completion of badge and cap insignia inventories by the Seattle and St. Paul Districts. A pivotal moment occurs on February 1, 1941, with the initial plans for a new El Paso HQ building, influenced by the Chamizal Treaty. This week, we also highlight the commendable actions of Criminal Investigator Ted L. Giorgetti in a major narcotics operation and remember two of our fallen heroes, honoring their service and sacrifice. I invite you to read the full blog for a deeper understanding of these stories and to appreciate the rich history of the U.S. Border Patrol. Your thoughts and engagement are always welcome.
