Asian American Pacific Islander Month is celebrated in May, and we asked some of our Kroger Health associates to share what this awareness month means to them. We loved learning about different traditions or celebrations the associates partake in during this month. Staff engagement and company culture is paramount to a successful business. And what better way to do it than with food? 😋 Here's one way The Y Principle's team uses both to create a great employee experience. Like to know more? Ask Y.
Nothing brings people together like food does. So why not celebrate diversity and inclusion with an event that everyone can enjoy? International Food Day is one of the best events in my Culture Calendar. It's simple; just ask your team to bring in a dish (homemade or bought) with cultural significance to them & share it with the team. Since being introduced to this event, I have celebrated in every role I've had and it is always the most successful. This event is a great way to showcase the unique and diverse backgrounds of your team members. It allows everyone to share a part of their culture and learn about others in a fun and engaging way. Plus, who doesn't love trying new foods? So get your team together and celebrate the diversity that makes us all so great. The hardest thing about this event is knowing when to stop eating🤐. #culture #employeeexperience #diversityandinclusion #internationalfoodday

I nearly missed this nomination - an email went astray, so today’s announcement has taken me back a bit! It has, as always, been busy 🤣 There are some amazing people on this list - including Lorraine Copes, Vicky Ilankovan, Michelle Righini (who I have wanted to meet properly for ages) I am in the innovator category - which really makes this a nomination for the whole of alcohol-free sector - it is the biggest innovation in hospitality right now right! I registered Club Soda as a business 10 years ago this month. I sold all my things to set it up - and we started as health tech - and we still are - I am very proud that our mindful drinking behaviour change courses are free for everyone in hospitality thanks to The Drinks Trust. But it was the lack of choice of drinks that started my journey into hospitality. The Nudging Pubs report we launched in 2016 that garnered some interest from the sector (find it on our website joinclubsoda.com/research) - so that when low, light and alcohol-free products hit the market for the first time we felt it was our duty to share them with everyone. At its heart Club Soda is an equalities campaign. Everyone should feel welcome in every social space and everyone deserves equality do experience. Hospitality is not about the strength of the drinks in your glass. Believe it or not I am still trying to work out what my role is within the industry. With a politics and campaigning background it's not a natural fit! But this recognition helps - it's great to know people think that what I (and the rest of the team at CS) do is worthwhile and that we can make a difference to the nation’s social life. https://lnkd.in/eR4KJtdm

Include this with your Scotch 🥃 The more the Whisky Industry strives to understand who its customers are, and their connection to the product/brand, the greater the opportunities will be to introduce innovation at every level of the business. I was born and raised in the Caribbean and fell in love with #scotchwhisky in the early 90’s. A tradition was born whilst I lived there - I would buy a half-sized bottle of #johnniewalker as a treat each pay day! None of my girlfriends drank #whisky, but our parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles did. Yep, the aunties were known to say ‘I’ll take ah scotch’ back then. My appreciation and love have both grown since moving to Scotland, and my tastes now include #Laphroaig, #Macallan and many other amazing brands. We’re spoilt for choice! I love seeing opportunities for people to fall in love with the artistry, the sustainability, the land, the global appeal, the everything that goes into producing #scotchwhisky. Building on #inclusion will attract new people and open doors for those of us who have ALWAYS loved #whisky. People from all walks of life, gender, ethnicity, ability and regions across the globe have loved Scotch Whisky, but sometimes from afar. Until recent years they’ve not seen a reflection of themselves, and maybe became resigned to the fact that mainly one demographic was celebrated. There have been brilliant strides to open things up, #Diageo's initiatives often catch my eye. The #Scotchwhiskyassociation has cleverly explained jobs within the industry on the #spiritedcareers site. Some distillery tours are designed with #accessibility needs in mind. How exciting would it be to see more done across the Whisky Industry as a whole? More pace, more authenticity, more depth of engagement, more everything. Sounds greedy and impatient? Maybe. But I don’t think it sounds unreasonable. There’s a wealth of diverse consumers, aficionados, engineers, social media gurus, distillers, sales managers, content writers, artists, bottlers, sustainability experts and Caribbean aunties who want to love your product up close. Let them. Let inclusion partner with tradition. It will be dynamite!

Cultural diversity at the workplace allows you to bring new ways of thinking into your organisation and increases creativity. Added bonus: At the end of a long seminar day, there may be a colleague who has learned the art of baking traditional Neapolitan pizza 🍕 from an early age and is willing to share a few secrets. #CulturalDiversity #Diversity #Creativity

Those are not fish, they have no heads! They are not in water! My 4-year-old can be a bit absolutist in her views, assuming the life she knows is the only one possible. She is about to get her first lesson in the cultural nuances of global sales. We are in a Whole Foods in Phoenix, Arizona and my mother is trying to buy tilapia. Fish in the Arizona is typically bought in the grocery store, on ice, decapitated, scaled and cut into cookable filets. Luckily, my mother has lived in Asia, and gets that in my daughter’s world of Hong Kong’s New Territories, fish can be bought whole, and in some cases, they can be selected whilst still alive, hence my daughter’s indignant statement (and the equal bewilderment of Whole Foods staff). She patiently explains that people around the world have different ways of buying and selling things, there is no right or wrong way, just every place is special and different and we need to adapt ourselves to local practices in order to succeed in getting what we want easily. We enjoyed the tilapia, even without its head. How do you prepare your team to navigate differences in international markets? #globalbusiness #internationalsales #culturalintelligence

𝗨𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 One day, Rimon and Rishad were responsible for overseeing the food prepared for more than 100 participants in a program. Their location was separate from the event venue. While they were chatting, a senior participant entered the room with a big smile and asked, “𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦?” They exchanged pleasantries, and during the conversation, the senior asked, “𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥,” even though the distribution process had not yet begun. Rishad remained silent, while Rimon walked slowly on the floor, avoiding compliance. The senior asked again, “𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯'𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘦𝘵?” Rimon politely explained, "𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘴𝘰. 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥." The senior, still smiling, asked Rishad, “𝘏𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘙𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯?” Rimon clarified, “𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦.” The senior realized what Rimon wanted to mean. He abstained from tasting the food showing his respect to the importance of the words of Rimon. This made Rimon very happy with his senior's response. After the distribution process, there was plenty of food left. Rimon, Rishad, the senior, and many of the general participants enjoyed the food together, spreading happiness among them. Although this scenario may seem immaterial, it has a significant impact on our lives. We face many similar situations in our daily activities where maintaining integrity and fairness is essential. In today's fast-paced world, integrity and fairness are more important than ever. Let's strive to uphold these values in every situation. Doing the right thing, even when it's difficult, not only benefits us but also creates a positive environment for everyone around us. Note: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘵𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦. #Integrity #Ethics #Fairness #Leadership #Professionalism #PositiveWorkCulture
