Is it realistic to think of nuclear weapons use after 2 years that Russia invaded #Ukraine? Did you know that, triggered by the high-altitude detonation of a #nuclear weapon, a high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (#HEMP) -a sudden burst of electromagnetic radiation- can damage electronic components in the power grid? After an EMP blast, there are three pulses—E1, E2, and E3. The E1 pulse may directly radiate sensitive electronics or couple with electrical equipment via control cables or other conductors. The E2 pulse has effects similar to lightning. The E3 pulse may induce currents in long-distance transmission lines that damage or disrupt large power transformers (LPTs) and other essential equipment. I remember EPRI publishing in 2017 and here you can read its 2022 report for Congressional Research Center. note: this is not the typical fun post for weekend but it is worth to remember that it is 2 years since Ukraine is suffering and we cannot forget it
