So we just finished our NYC event for Filipina on the Rise and I was looking through the photos, and this is the one that stood out to me the most, from all our other [very beautiful] photos! While we had a great turn out again (almost 100 people!) and a very powerful panel of speakers, delicious catering (yay Filipino food!), from the faces of these photos, I would check this off as "Event Success!" 😊 Why? It shows me that attendees are ENGAGED with EACH OTHER. Most of our attendees come SOLO not knowing anyone, so this synergy makes us proud In the past 3 years now of throwing sold out community events around the country, I've learned that people are really hungry for 1) belonging and 2) relationships. I've stopped measuring success by just attendee count, but by these 3 things: 1) Are people feeling seen, valued and heard in the event? (not just watching people on stage!) 2) Are people engaging in new, in-depth conversations? 3) Are people walking away with relationships that will CONTINUE after them? There's a HUGE difference between *Events* and *Community Building* How I make sure our environment is set up to make sure everyone is talking and our community is FR BUILDING- 1) Upon arrival, attendees receive an icebreaker and assignment of finding someone to talk with prompt received 2) I put conversation starters and question cards AROUND the room 3) We engage with the audience during panel talks What are elements in community events that have had you actively participate and build relationships after? Chat with me about global #communitybuilding :)

6moWhen there's food/drinks involved, I have many interesting conversations with people when attending community events. Love that you support Filipino-owned businesses and have vendors at your events. Looking forward to attending an event someday! 🙂 ❤️
