Putting a price on carbon is key to drive decarbonisation, carbon markets are a popular way to achieve it. In credit based carbon markets, such as the Australian ACCUs, price discovery is not straight forward. This limits physical trading and hedging abilities, making it not only harder for market participants to effectively manage their carbon position but also in general for the market to drive decarbonisation as effectively as it could. In collaboration between Xpansiv, CME Group and us at Platts S&P Global Commodity Insights, new spot and futures contracts will bring reliable price transparency to a very quickly evolving market.
