As we observe #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, it's crucial to shed light on the disproportionate health risks Black mothers face, like a higher risk for preeclampsia and a fatality rate that is 3 to 4 times higher compared to non-Hispanic white women. Early detection and equitable care can change outcomes. Let's commit to empowering women with knowledge and support for better health outcomes.

Her PLAN (Her Pregnancy and Life Assistance Network) is a program that connects providers across seven categories of care, offering holistic support to women through comprehensive medical, social, and material support. “It’s important to get that 360-degree view of the care a woman needs both before and after birth and get her plugged into all of those different categories of care.” The Directory at HerPLAN.org connects providers across the categories of care so they can find one another and be able to start sending patients and clients in the direction of further ongoing comprehensive care. Women and families may also access the directory and find the help and resources they need to be in the position to carry a pregnancy to term and receive the care they and their babies require after birth. October is #PregnancyandInfantLossAwareness Month. Why Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness? Why does it matter? There is a misconception that when women & families share personal stories of their loss (miscarriage, stillbirth, infant/ baby loss), they 'want people to feel sorry (woiye) for them', OR 'but sharing your story will not bring your baby back?!" That is not the case. Sharing personal stories and creating awareness matters because: - it reminds women who've gone through loss that they are not alone. - it reduces the stigma associated with pregnancy/child loss and allows affected women to seek help/support. - it helps to advocate for better maternal and child care. Please share this post in your networks this #PregnancyAndInfantLossAwareness Month. #TunzaMamaCares #PregnancyLossAwareness #PAILAwareness #Miscarriage #InfantDeath #ChildLoss #SIDS
