The Ladies behind Ladies on the Track Our first LinkedIn post is here! Meet te Ladies behind Ladies on the Track. We are two passionate Dutch students, Kim de Jong and Kelsey van Paridon, who share an interest in racing. Our study, International Sports Management at De Haagse Hogeschool / The Hague University of Applied Sciences connected us and made our shared interests and opinions known. That is how we found out that we share the opinion that women are underrepresented in motorsports. Even though more people acknowledge the talent of these women, there is still not enough exposure and acknowledgement. We want to change this! On the track, in the pits and next to the track, we at Ladies on the Track aim to represent all the women in the motorsport to tell their stories. So, we share blogs, updates and stories about female drivers and “behind the scene” women. We want to provide a platform where everyone is welcome and informed. Being underrepresented is one of the many problems women in the racing world experience. But, the lack of exposure is one thing we can contribute to. Our mission is to help women tell their stories so everyone is heard. You can help us with our mission by sharing your story. Fun fact: Together we attended over 30 races 🙂 We hope you will stick around! #motorsports #femalesinmotorsport #formula1 #formula3 #womenempowerment #startup

There were two significant announcements last week with regards to sponsorship of female drivers, further underlining the opportunities that brands are seeing in supporting women in motorsport. In the US, it was revealed that Katherine Legge will take to the track for her fourth Indy 500 at the end of May with Dale Coyne Racing, backed by E.L.F. BEAUTY as her primary sponsor. Having supported Legge in a smaller capacity in the past, this will represent the first time a beauty brand has served as the primary sponsor of a driver in the Indy 500 in the race's 100+ year history. On the domestic UK motorsport scene, Porsche Sprint Challenge GB driver Caitlin Wood will be supported by Mattel, Inc.'s Barbie during the 2024 season. As well as carrying the brand on her car's livery, the partnership will see ten young girls invited to each race weekend, with Caitlin also due to visit schools and universities to promote careers in STEM. These announcements, alongside the groundbreaking Charlotte Tilbury Beauty partnership in F1 Academy, not only show the growing appetite of brands to support women in motorsport, but also how increased female participation can open up new commercial opportunities for the sport with non-endemic brands. More than Equal's research survey exploring the gender gap in motorsport found that 46% of respondents think more highly of companies that support women in sport, and brands need only look to the likes of the WSL and the WNBA, to name just two, to see the growth opportunities that exist. #motorsport #womeninmotorsport #womeninsport #sportsbiz

Love seeing women representation in male dominated sports- Why is this partnership a game-changer? Well, according to The Female Quotient, a whopping 40% of F1 fans are women, contributing to a staggering total viewership of 1.5 billion during the 2022 season! Charlotte Tilbury Beauty recognized the untapped potential and immense following of female fans in motorsports, and they've stepped into the fast lane to support and elevate female talent in this male-dominated space. In the words of Charlotte Tilbury herself, "Motorsport has a huge female following, and the drivers of F1 Academy are already increasing representation and diversity in the sport." This partnership isn't just about cosmetics; it's about breaking down barriers, shattering stereotypes, and opening up the traditionally male-dominated world of motorsport to a new wave of talented young women. Here's to more groundbreaking partnerships that make us say, "Why didn't this happen sooner?"

Formula 1 is one of the sports where women can physically and equally challenge men. Yet, there hasn't been a female driver since 1992. The organization "More Than Equal" hopes to change that with a variety of different approaches, including more media supporting equality, cultivating female drivers from an early age, and creating female racing role models. Read about this important effort in diversifying the Formula 1 community below https://lnkd.in/g-UzRj-9

Almost exactly a year ago I left Sport England to join a nonprofit startup (called More than Equal) with an ambitious goal — to support female drivers and help them realise a dream of competing at the very top end of motorsport (F1) Though I had lots of experience in sport, and in particular supporting women in sport, motorsport itself was largely new to me. I've written a post which fleshes out five key things I've learned about the sport so far (listed below but far too long for LinkedIn) If you can bear opening a new window to read the full post here, do let me know your thoughts. 1. Mixed gender sports present unique and different challenges for women. 2. Women in motorsport have plenty of champions but need more vocal advocates. 3. Motorsport’s messy ecosystem makes true pathway development difficult. 4. The sport needs to get more serious about attracting and retaining women and girls. 5. Lack of women on the grid remains a glaring opportunity lost. Loads of learnings too as a first-time CEO (not least hiring the very best people being key!) but that's a post for another day!)

🌍 Celebrating the Trailblazers: Women in Motorsport 🌍 On this International Women's Day, Wildheart Unicorn Motorsport proudly recognises the remarkable contributions of women to the world of motorsport. From pioneering drivers of the 1920s to the influential figures shaping the industry today, women have consistently driven innovation, excellence, and change within this dynamic field. Her story is not just a testament to individual bravery but a chapter in the ongoing narrative of women's vital role in motorsport history. The contributions of women in motorsport extend far beyond the racetrack. They are engineers, strategists, team leaders, and visionaries who have propelled the industry forward while championing diversity and inclusion. Their achievements have not only enriched the sport but have also paved the way for future generations to dream bigger and aim higher.
