Fellow physicians, what’s stopping us from taking enough time off- whatever that may be and realizing it’s different for each of us? Just the other day, I had a conversation with a GI doc who revealed he’s only taken 3 weeks off per year for the last 20 years. He’s thinking about, and really wants to take 12 weeks off this year. My take- do it! You only live once. Life is short and all of those cliches. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts #healthandwellness #lifeisshort #physicianwellness #physicianshelpingphysicians #physicianburnout

Professional fulfillment is crucial for physicians’ well-being and optimal patient care. Highly demanding work environments, perfectionism and self-critical attitudes jeopardize physicians’ professional fulfillment. Back in 2020, cardiologists (n = 374) in the Netherlands participated in a web-based survey. Findings from this study suggest that improving physicians’ self-kindness may enhance professional fulfillment through personal resilience and work-home interference. The findings may stimulate and remind physicians to be kind towards themselves as it may benefit them and their patients. #selfkindness #professionalperformance #compassion #selfcare #cardiologist #physician #resilience #care The whole article and authors can be found in the firts comment 👇

Our recent report, "Meeting the Metrics: How Interventional Cardiologists Are Maintaining PCI Proficiency in Rural America," examines the volume of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions in rural hospitals nationwide. And the findings are surprising. Despite averaging nearly 80 PCIs per physician, rural hospitals face critical recruitment challenges. Joel Wasserman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in a rural area of Washington says, "Volume here is pretty high...Our medical staff handles a caseload that's in the top 20 percent in volume in the country, but recruiting clinicians to this area is difficult."
