Babyblues and postpartum depression are not the same thing. While babyblues are a common experience for new mothers, postpartum depression is more severe and long-lasting. It's important for new mothers to be aware of the differences between these two experiences and to seek help if they are experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression. Remember, taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. #postpartumdepression #mentalhealthawareness

Did you know that that the semicolon has become a symbol of hope for people who have battled depression, anxiety, addiction, and other mental health issues? I didn’t know that until today … I know what it feels like when the weight of the world makes you feel buried; I know what it feels like to look at the past, not comprehend it, and the frustration at not being able to change it; I know what it feels like to look at a blank page of my future, wiped clean of any plans, and feel terrified; I know what it feels like to be stuck on a mind loop that causes a physical reaction of pain in my body, shortness of breath, sickness; I know what it feels like to not sleep a wink all night & yet still wake up & wonder what the point is; The semicolon (;) is a symbol used as punctuation & most commonly used to link two ideas, both closely related in concept often restating the preceding idea with a different expression. This is how I feel about my life. There was pre 2017 and post 2017. That year was my semi-colon year. A time to pause while still continuing to live; the time before & the time after my diagnosis of Clinical Depression, PTSD, insomnia and disordered eating. Since 2018, I have been the same but a different expression of the concept of me before. Stronger. Wiser. More of myself. Because I chose to keep going. To raise awareness, to show solidarity, to give hope to others that they can keep going too, I would ask you to leave a semicolon symbol in the comments below to represent and share personal strength to overcome internal struggle. Love always Ali xo #semi-colon #hope #solidarity #mentalhealthawareness #struggle #internalturmoil #clinicaldepression #ptsd #depression #hope

Understanding depression involves recognizing it as a complex mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and disinterest in activities. It's more than just feeling down or experiencing a bad day; it's a prolonged state of emotional and physical distress that significantly impacts daily functioning. Depression can arise from a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. It affects individuals differently, and symptoms can vary in severity. Understanding depression involves destigmatizing it, promoting awareness, and encouraging empathy and support for those affected. It also involves seeking professional help, as effective treatments such as therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes can alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. Overall, understanding depression requires a holistic approach that acknowledges its complexity and the importance of compassionate care and support for individuals experiencing it. Kindly join us tomorrow at 9am to 11am EAT on Tukule Foundation X’spaces as we get a better understanding of depression and how we can recognize its signs. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #togetherformentalheallth
