Congratulations to the 2024 ACE Mentor Program of Greater NY scholarship recipients! The generosity of the program’s corporate scholarship sponsors will help make paying for college that much easier for the ACE mentees. Construction leaders and allies, like Brennan Gilbane Koch of Gilbane Building Company, Maria Torres-Springer Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development, and Workforce for the City of New York, and Elizabeth Velez of the Velez Organization, were also recognized for their contributions to NY construction during the recent scholarship luncheon. #ACE also honored the life and legacy of founder Charles Thornton, who passed away in late 2023. His daughter, Diana Eidenshink, accepted the award on her father’s behalf. Our very own CEO, Schillivia Baptiste, P.E., Assoc. DBIA is an ACE alum and a current mentor and team leader. She credits ACE as the bridge that connects the youth of this generation to the A-E-C industry and the great potential it holds. #MentoringProgram #MentorshipMatters #StudentSuccess #MWBE

Values driven, future ready! With the year off to a good start, the heartbeat of the British Council School resonates with the commitment to our core values, woven into the fabric of our educational journey: - our caring community looks after young minds who flourish in a nurturing environment, where every student is embraced as an integral part of our extended family. - Loyalty is the bond that ties our school families. It imbues us with a sense of responsibility and support amongst peers, fostering connections. - In a world of constant change, our commitment to flexibility encourages students not only to adapt to but also to welcome new opportunities with open arms, ensuring they are well-prepared for the dynamic future ahead. - Resilience is a cornerstone of our School. It empowers students to face adversity with confidence, teaching them the belief that challenges are stepping stones to success. - Challenges are there to be faced head on and overcome. By doing do our students and community achieve higher goals and make progress in all aspects of their development. As we set sail into the new year, our collective focus remains on nurturing these values - resilience, loyalty, flexibility, caring, and the pursuit of constant challenge. Together, let's make 2024 a year of growth and learning!

I can't say this enough! Governance is key for successful organizations and you'll find that most successful organizations have great governance practices in place. Community College boards are not exempt from this and we need more collegiate boards across the country subscribing to the best practices. At Diligent, our platforms are tailor-made to help organizations achieve excellence with governance and if you feel that your board needs a better way to handle this process, reach out to us today!

Governance Development Manager at Advance HE. Experienced leader in higher education. Keen interest in the student experience.
I've had a cracking couple of days this week getting to do big picture strategic thinking for the betterment of the HE sector and trying to improve the lives of students. Firstly, on Monday the Advance HE Consulting, Governance and Insights Team came together for an online away day. A lot packed in, especially when it was thi time last year that we only just started to form as a new team - in fact, we didn't even use the word team at that point because we weren't quite there. Looking back on individual and smaller team successes where I realised just how much we'd done; planning the next year and our key priorities and hammering home the commitment to being innovative as we manage working with change. (thanks Sam Harding Assoc CIPD for a great session on the latter). I can't quite grasp how far we've come in a small time frame, a joy to work with the people I do as our diverse skills and approaches compliment each other. Yesterday I donned my trustee cap, like a trustee hat but cooler, and spent the day with York St John Students' Union at our Board Meeting and Strategy Day. I'm coming up to a year with YSJSU and very much enjoying both challenges nd incredibly progressive board and organisational culture I've landed in, those things don't happen by chance. There is a real and appropriately assured risk appetite from the Board alongside a commitment to be ambitious, realistic and deliver what students need. I was throughly impressed by the growth of the Officer Trustees and how strategic they've become; meeting the whole staff team in an informal environment was fantastic to gain new insights while dispelling the myth of the Baord, *trustees are people too*; and hear from a representative of York St. John University Execitive about the direction of the University and where we share common purpose. Still many things to do and some critical risks to challenge but one of the very impressive SU Coordinators summed it up perfectly, "the job of the SU is to be flexible to whatever students end us to be". Finally some special mention for Matthew Blackstock who Chaired his last baord before leaving his President post. a fantastic young man who has matured as a person and professional so much in the past year. I see a lot of Chairing of University boards and committees and quite frankly he stands out amongst that crowd as a shining example with 30-40 years less experience. Someone I hope will be retained to the HE sector, if I was recruiting to a University baord and needed knowledge of the sector, recent student experience and an understanding of being a University governor then I'd be fighting to get him. And to grab your attention here is the "drawing" I put in for the work team drawing task. May have used AI, checked the regs and it didn't say I couldn't.

From 2022-2024 CAEL worked with four postsecondary institutions in Texas on improving outcomes for adult and Latino adult learners. Now, the findings from our independent evaluator Ithaka S+R are out! Spoiler alert: all institutions made significant progress in their areas of focus, and many overall lessons emerged that can be applied to any institution interested in pursuing similar goals, including: 📊 Use data to build a business case for developing an intentional strategy for targeting and supporting adult learners 👩🎓 Adult learners themselves are valuable partners in identifying strategies for improvement 📣 Focus on building broad awareness of these programs among staff, faculty, and students To read the full report see below:
