When someone presents themselves as the ultimate authority on leadership education, it’s worth asking: What story are they trying to sell? Take the Canada School of Public Service | École de la fonction publique du Canada, for example. Their #programs teach you how things should be done, not necessarily how things are actually done. They focus on processes for addressing problems, but rarely tackle the deeper issues within those #processes—issues that can leave public servants personally #vulnerable. And let’s be honest: the end stakeholder of these teachings isn’t the #Canadian public. The real focus often seems to be on preserving centralized power and maintaining the siloed #infrastructure of the public service (aka holding onto your own little piece of power). If you truly want to learn about #leadership —the kind that confronts #systemic challenges and #serves the #publicinterest—this may not be the place to start....like really - #gaslighting is super charged. Leadership is about #courage, #integrity, and addressing uncomfortable #truths, not just following a prescribed process. Maybe it’s time we look beyond conventional programs and rethink how we develop leaders who are equipped to make real change. Excellent article “An empowered decision-maker who aligns the technical workforce with the institution’s long-term goals by anticipating future needs, advocating for technicians, and shaping policies that impact both technical staff and the broader organisation. They play a pivotal role in strategic planning, particularly in areas such as workforce sustainability, skills development, and investment in technical resources, while ensuring technicians have access to meaningful development opportunities.”
