DEI doesn't stop with HR policies. In our recent longform report, we delved into how throwing events to celebrate events from all cultures helps bring DEI to the forefront of your team's minds, as well as making those from all cultures feel recognised. What events you celebrate will look different for each company, but we've put in some examples and you can read the full report for more (link in comments).

Our 80+ global Baird HR team attended the first ever Baird HR Symposium earlier this week! The event focused on how we can become more trusted, confident, and credible business professionals supporting our clients—Baird associates! It was an incredible event. There were smiles, laughs, happy tears, success stories on how we’ve delivered incredible solutions for our clients, interviews with senior leaders from different revenue groups, an exclusive chat with Baird’s CEO, Steve Booth, informative breakout sessions (shoutout to the entire Baird Talent Development Team!), HR-themed Family Feud, and dinner! To top it off, our CHRO, Rodney Jones-Tyson, closed the event by surprising every HR associate with a gift and personalized, hand-written note expressing his gratitude and appreciation for the work we do. WOW! 😄 (Yes, that’s him with the Baird-blue sunglasses. Yes, he’s as cool as he looks.) After almost 13 years with the firm, I have to pinch myself from time to time because I’m still in awe of how incredible of a place Baird is and continues to be. I LOVE our HR team. Our associates are some of the most caring, thoughtful, intelligent, and driven people I know. We have fun. Our culture embraces associates no matter their background or life experiences. Development opportunities such as this focusing on continuously improving ourselves so we can do our best work are countless. All of this, and more, is why we’re the best in the business. When you feel valued and supported by your leaders and colleagues, you deliver consistent, high-quality results—and not because you have to, but because you WANT to. Yesterday I attended another great Oliva HR breakfast event. This is my 4th Oliva event, and boy, do they make you think! This month's event was led by the brilliant JooBee Yeow, PhD on the topic of 'now HR leaders have a seat at the table, what's next?' We discussed: 🤝The relationships you build outside the boardroom are so important, if not, more important than when you're in that room. Spend time cultivating and fostering those relationships so you understand your peers and they understand you. 🗣️ Learn to speak the language that they speak. What are they going to resonate with most and how can you talk to that. 🥰 Call upon those real life examples of the team around you. Data is important, but that's not the whole story. It isn't so black and white. 📝 Co-create projects with other stakeholders. Collaborate and work towards the common goal. Get them to challenge and pick holes in what you have created, find your blind spots, understand it from a different lens. I love these Oliva events. I love that they make exercise your brain and I love that they are full of talented, smart people, and of course, I love the tasty breakfast!
