📢 With support from Arnold Ventures, J-PAL North America is launching a new initiative to pair researchers with #criminaljustice organizations, and create new #evidence about what ideas and interventions actually work. As part of this initiative, J-PAL North America will act as a “matchmaker” between qualified CJ researchers and governments, nonprofits, and foundations that want to put the effectiveness of their promising CJ programs to the test. Read more in our interview with Vincent Quan, co-executive director of J-PAL North America, on how the organization’s new initiative will create high-quality #research that, in turn, can lead to more effective #policy interventions and improved outcomes for people, families, and communities: https://lnkd.in/gRQ5dgVH

Historic and systemic inequities have limited access to critical resources like healthcare, education, economic development, and affordable housing for communities of color in the U.S. Community-based organizations are on the frontlines meeting critical needs. These Minority-led and Minority-serving nonprofit organizations are filling gaps by providing culturally affirming resources and services in areas tailored for their communities and building trust with those they serve. Undivided Attention provides funding information, some new resources, and tools to keep doing that work. Nonprofit leaders, board members, potential board members, and Social Entrepreneurs are all encouraged to attend https://lnkd.in/gJmpg5kM

In collaboration with Pui Ling Tam, Program Lead for Economic Well-being at the Walter & Elise Haas Fund, Leslie Payne, Initiative Director at The James Irvine Foundation, and ReWork's very own Director, Rob Hope, the authored op-ed offers valuable insights into the pervasive issue of under-compensation within the nonprofit sector. The reflection emphasizes the impact of the Nonprofit Starvation Cycle on organizational sustainability and the broader sector, shedding light on the unfortunate reality that many nonprofit jobs lack family-sustaining wages, necessary benefits, worker protections, and advancement opportunities. Recognizing the inherent challenges of nonprofit work, the article highlights the sector's responsibility to recruit and retain talent by ensuring quality jobs that reflect the dedication and impact of those committed to social good. The article serves as a rallying call to action and paradigm shift within our sector. https://lnkd.in/epE7ma-x

Highlights from our #2024PractitionersGathering. Discussion today focused on the importance of transparency and the shrinking public trust in government, media, and non-profits. The Practitioner Institute started with a presentation from Kevval Hanna of the Edelman Trust Institute on their Trust Barometer (https://lnkd.in/eC7hstpx). We were joined by Stacey Abrams and by Denis Moynihan co-founder of Democracy Now! Amy Domini a pioneer of #EthicalInvesting, reminded us: “knowledge leads to social change, and that’s the foundation on which this field needs to grow.” As a network of values aligned investors, it was a call to action to do more to build a vibrant civil society and healthy democracy.

For her 2022 comprehensive field scan of youth philanthropy, Camille Gerville-Reache reviewed 300 papers, studied dozens of programs, and consulted professionals from the U.S., Brazil, China, and Bulgaria. Investing in social enterprises and nonprofits is one of my passions. Businesses can be a catalyst for positive change in communities. They can: - embrace social responsibilities - raise the level of public education - invest in public health - bring awareness to critical issues - shape communities - bring prosperity As business owners, we have more power than we realize. We can decide to use that power for ourselves, or use it for others. Let’s challenge each other to use it for our communities and the common good.
