On 18 June 2024, Marampa Mines Limited (MML) joined the global community in observing International Day of Women in Mining, an annual global campaign that honours the incredible achievements of women and their advancement and inclusion in mining.     We collectively and individually celebrated MML’s continuous commitment toward diversity and gender parity. We hosted engaging activities, including a panel discussion on the theme “I am Mining and I Belong,” where colleagues shared personal stories to inspire others. The day was filled with fun, recognition of outstanding women, cultural dance displays, and a live art station with images depicting the roles and positions of women in the mining industry today.    Towards the end of 2023, MML surpassed its 30% target for female representation among direct employees, reaching 34%, a remarkable milestone. This commitment to a minimum 30% female headcount also extended to our contractors. Continuing to develop women at all levels in our workforce underpins our determination to prioritise diversity, equality and building a strong workforce in an industry where a more diverse range of perspectives and skills can contribute to raising productivity, innovation, safety, resilience and making a positive impact.   Thank you to everyone who participated and made this day unforgettable. MML is determined to continue leading the way in championing diversity and inclusion in mining.   #womeninmining #IDWIM2024 #diversity #communities #womeninmetals #ironore #MarampaBlue #metalsmerchant

Shattering Stereotypes; Women Thriving in Mining Industry Careers; Breaking Barriers Onsite. In the traditionally male-dominated realm of mining, women are increasingly making their mark, challenging stereotypes, and contributing to the industry's evolution. As we celebrate International Women's Day, it's fitting to shine a spotlight on the remarkable women who have chosen to forge careers on mine sites, breaking barriers and reshaping perceptions. The resilience and determination exhibited by women working on mine sites are noteworthy. Overcoming physical demands and prevailing stereotypes, these women play a crucial role in dispelling outdated beliefs about gender-specific capabilities. Their achievements inspire not only their peers but also future generations of women considering careers in the mining industry. Taking the opportunity of this day to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible teamwork that has defined our collaboration on the Skouries Site. Working alongside such a dedicated and talented group of individuals has been an inspiring journey, and I am genuinely thankful for each one of you, whether included in this photo or not. A WSJ article on June 10, 2021, noted slow progress by miners in attracting more female workers. For example, in the US, only 14.3% of the mining workforce in 2020 were women, up a mere 0.3% from 2015; this compared to 47% women in the overall workforce. In 2020, more than 27% of BHP's workers were women, an increase of ~10 percentage points from 2015. At June 30, 2023, female representation at BHP was considered to be "on track" at 35.2% and its short-term milestone is greater than 37% in fiscal 2024. BHP has committed to achieve gender balance and is now celebrating being the first mining company in Chile to exceed 40% female presence. BHP states: "As a company we have proven that having a more inclusive and diverse workforce creates more committed, safer, more productive and efficient teams." One of my highlights was speaking at the, Its Due - Women and leadership in mining 2023 conference hosted by Pinpoint Stewards. While conducting research for my talk on gender equality and enabling change through capital projects, it really hit me how grossly underrepresented female entrepreneurs are in the mining world and how slow progress was in our space. I know it is quite obvious that women in general are underrepresented in the mining world, however, it’s still quite sobering when you take a deep dive into the actual numbers, especially for female enteepreneurs. As we forge ahead, it’s not all doom and gloom. We can bring about change in our industry through intentional, behavioural and systematic efforts. As they say, change starts with you and I. At the EIS scheme webinar laying out the hows and whats of the scheme, one thing was abundantly clear to me: of the industry participants, which I guess numbered 20-30 people, only one was a woman. This speaks not to the quality of the ideas the blokes presented, or a bias toward selecting projects put up by blokes, but to the lack of women as exploration managers, exploration directors and consulting geologists. What will it take to get 10% females in the room for a EIS funding meeting?
