Every small step count towards a brighter, more sustainable future. Whether it's being mindful of our grocery shopping, utilizing leftovers creatively, or supporting initiatives that redistribute surplus food to those in need, we all have a role to play. Let's join hands to combat food waste, alleviate hunger, and create a healthier planet for generations to come. Together, we can make a world of difference. #StopFoodWaste #FightHunger #SustainableFuture

Hey! Did you know that in 2022, over 1 billion tonnes of food—roughly one-fifth of all the produce available—went to waste globally? Of this, households were the biggest culprits, responsible for a staggering 60% of the wastage. That's a whopping 631 million tonnes wasted from our homes alone (with Indian households standing second at 78 million tonnes of waste per year)! The food service sector contributed 290 million tonnes (28%), while the retail sector pitched in with 131 million tonnes (12%). But let's break it down further. - Every single day, households around the world waste at least 1 billion meals. - Food loss and waste generate 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions which is almost 5x the total emissions from the aviation sector! - This waste occurs while 783 million people are hungry, and a third of humanity faces food insecurity. Reducing food waste provides compounding benefits. Not only can we reduce greenhouse gas emissions and alleviate pressure on our planet, but we can also address hunger and food insecurity in our communities. So, let's make a commitment to take action. Whether it's through mindful consumption, supporting initiatives that redistribute surplus food, or advocating for policies that promote food waste reduction, each of us has a role to play. Together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future for all. 🌍💚 #FoodWaste #Sustainability #ChangeStartsWithUs

It's heartbreaking to think of the incredible amount of food wasted around the world every day while many people go hungry. A recent United Nations report highlights that the amount of food wasted could feed everyone experiencing hunger. This stark contrast between abundance and scarcity highlights the urgent need for more equity in our world. To address the imbalance between food waste and hunger, we must prioritize sustainable solutions. Raising awareness about efficient production and consumption is essential. We must also invest in community programs, innovative technology and strong distribution networks to prevent excess crop spoilage while ensuring vulnerable groups have access reliable supply. Collaborating with and supporting grassroots organizations is the way to create real change. By taking collective action, perhaps one day no one will have to go through tragedy with empty hands or an empty stomach. A sustainable future depends on global solidarity and local empowerment. What small steps will you take today to help build a world zero hunger?

The lastest United Nations Food Waste Index Report 2024 provides a clear picture of our broken global food systems. Something is definitely wrong when we waste over 1 billion meals daily at the same time that 783 million people suffer from hunger worldwide. Furthermore, food waste also has a dramatic impact in our environment. Food waste drains resources, pollutes, and worsens climate change. We're essentially throwing away the land, water, and energy used to produce food that we waste. These facts highlight the importance of working together across sectors and borders. Collaboration between governments, businesses, and communities is essential. By pooling our resources, sharing best practices, and fostering innovation across the globe, we can make meaningful strides towards reducing food waste for the people and the planet. How to help reduce climate change by what you eat. Research from Oxford University found that to meet tough climate targets there’ll need to be a dramatic shift in what we eat, how much we eat, how it's produced and how much is wasted. Food production accounts for up to 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Here are five tips for a climatarian diet by Dr Emily Connally, founder of Cherwell Collective: https://zurl.co/TPlb
