New Post: Impact of Workplace Bullying on Quiet Quitting in Nurses: The Mediating Effect of Coping Strategies

Last week I took a WHOLE TWO DAYS out for some learning, development and thinking time! When you run your own business it can be full-on and difficult to take time out - it's really easy to skip training opportunities or to find time or headspace to consider what you might need going forward, but I'm really glad I made the time. 👩🎓 First up was Mental Health First Aid through Mental Health First Aid England's 'Mindful Towns and Villages' initiative.  This was really insightful and I know will be put to good use in my work. 👩🎓 The second was annual Employment Tribunal training, where I sit as a non-legal member. This was the first in-person training for four years. I feel privileged to sit on ET panels and find it helps with my 'day job' immensely.   ☕ I also made time for a coffee with a good friend and potential Mustard HR recruit - watch this space! Great insight into the role of an employment consultant working within the IPS approach.

The reality of working in social care is that continuous, quality work cannot be sustained alone. We can't depend on our initial training and qualification to sustain us throughout our career. The needs of service users, communities and organisations change and we're working in a system that demands more from us physically, emotionally and intellectually, while simultaneously working with fewer resources. We need to be learning on an ongoing basis to develop our skills, keep up with a changing world and to develop our own personal capacities for best practice. We also need to be supported to stay open to the emotionally demanding work that is social care. That's where professional supervision comes in. An experienced supervisor will be able to provide a safe supervisory environment for the social care worker to stand back and reflect on their work, a chance to further develop self-awareness, to gain learning from even the most difficult of situations and to feel supported in their work without judgement. They should want to get the best outcomes for them. This job role isn't for everyone. it takes special people with special abilities to make a difference and transform lives. Just because a candidate has experience or the qualification doesn't make them automatically right for the role or for the young people who are in your care. How is your employment history? #Autistic truth time. I disregarded my boundaries for employers until I was 26. Almost died from a #Concussion . Had a #Counselor say 'No your type of Autism can't work for just anyone in any environment."I have succeeded in some long-term employment. Failed in other full-time employment in jobs that didn't permit adequate self-care. Why do I post this? #Cliche #OverSharing right? Ah no. It is a good idea to have a window into how I operate & think especially if we were to ever meet or if we were to work together. No more jobs that prevent healthy bathing like working at camp. Where are all the Children's Home Managers? It's a real concern in our sector. The shortage of Registered Children's Home Managers has been a growing issue, and it's impacting the quality of care.
