Meet Winnie Chastek, a UWM MSW Graduate! What are your post-grad plans? My plans are to get a position in a social work or public health. I also plan on continuing my involvement as the co-chair of the Pride Network for the NASW-WI. What advice would you give a student who wants to study social work? Don't be afraid to explore Macro work. Often people think of direct services or case management for social work but there is so much you can do with your degree. Don't be afraid to explore Macro work! What do you love most about social work? The real life impact it has on the people, groups, and communities we serve.

The first step to becoming a coordinator is to assess your skills and interests. Coordinators need to have strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. They also need to be adaptable, flexible, and collaborative. You should also consider what kind of program you want to coordinate, and what kind of impact you want to make. For example, do you prefer working with children, adults, or communities? Do you want to focus on education, health, or social justice? Do you want to work in a local, national, or international setting?

As a recruiter based in Hertfordshire, I recognise the importance of building positive relationships with children in residential care right from the start. 🌟 Starting a new role in this field can be both rewarding and challenging. Here are some techniques for new staff members to establish meaningful connections with these young individuals: 1. **Active Listening**: Take the time to listen attentively to what the children have to say. Show genuine interest in their thoughts and feelings. 2. **Empathy**: Put yourself in their shoes to better understand their experiences and emotions. Empathy goes a long way in building trust. 3. **Consistency**: Be consistent in your interactions and follow through on any promises made. This helps create a sense of security and reliability. 4. **Positive Reinforcement**: Acknowledge and praise their achievements, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement boosts self-esteem and encourages positive behaviour. 5. **Respect**: Treat the children with respect and dignity. Respect their boundaries and opinions to foster a sense of autonomy. Starting off on the right foot with these techniques not only benefits the children but also enriches your own experience in this rewarding field. 💼🌟 #BuildingRelationships #ResidentialCare #PositiveImpact

Perfect example of how politicians should stay out of "running" our schools. Besides the mishandling and lack of funding towards education, now they want to dictate where monies schools do get, where they should be spent. Maybe if they took the time to fix and amend gun laws vs how educators should spend and use those monies that they do get we would make better progress in staffing our schools with what our student bodies need. Don't get me wrong, school safety is important, very important but then again, if they fixed those guns laws that would minimize and I hope and pray lessen the chance of gun violence we have been experiencing. But mental health and awareness is key, very key in a child's, young adult's education and upbringing and success.
Strings attached to Arizona School Safety Program dollars are leaving school counselor and social worker positions unfunded throughout the state, as Republican leaders prioritize boosting campus police instead. The apparent mismatch between what schools need and what certain state leaders want to give them reflects an ongoing clash over which types of positions actually make a campus safer. https://lnkd.in/gpKeSXkA
