One of our guiding principles is ensuring that the spaces we create are not just aesthetically pleasing, but also evoke a sense of comfort and belonging for every child who enters. Research has shown that a comfortable learning environment can significantly impact student engagement and academic achievement (Johnson & Johnson, 2014). When students feel at ease in their surroundings, they are more likely to feel confident, motivated, and ready to learn. In a world that's constantly evolving, we believe it's essential for children to see themselves as the brilliant, capable individuals they are. Our aim is to provide them with spaces where they can explore, create, and grow, knowing that they are valued and supported every step of the way. Our Policy Lead, Stephen Caulfield, was in Glasgow yesterday for #LearningPlacesScotland 2024. This conference and exhibition brings together learners, educators, designers, consultants, and manufacturers for discussion and collaboration on how we deliver high-quality learning spaces for all.   Though there is much work still to be done, we are encouraged by the growing recognition of the role that school and college estate design has on the experiences of people with Additional Support Needs (ASN) - and how trends towards expansive, open-plan (and noisy) spaces is negatively impacting the experiences of people with differences in sensory profile and social communication.

Schools (K-12) are arguably the most important building type we create. They represent not only institutions for learning, but they help to define the communities they serve.
