We have documented the construction of a wide range of education facilities, from primary schools to universities. Our systems capture the entire building process, recording the development of spaces where future generations will learn and grow. Each project, whether a primary school, middle school, high school, college, or university, is recorded in detail, showing the building's progress until it is a completed educational institution. The footage serves as a visual record of the work that goes into creating environments for education, highlighting the construction milestones that shape these vital community assets. Through time-lapse, the transformation of architectural designs into functional learning spaces is preserved, creating a lasting record of the development of educational infrastructure. #education #tes #schoolbuild #timelapse #timelapseUK #schoolconstruction

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Malcolm X Elementary School modernization project! This transformation includes a Net Zero Energy design, ensuring the school operates with minimal environmental impact and meeting DCPS’s sustainability goals. The project also features flexible learning spaces, including discovery commons areas, small group rooms, and resource rooms designed to support both collaborative projects and individual instruction. We’re excited to share this glimpse into a project that supports education, sustainability, and the community. As higher education enrollment rates climb, there is an urgent need for students to have quality housing on college campuses. HKS education designers have created student housing environments on campuses small and large. But beyond just delivering housing units, our teams have conducted extensive research to understand what students really want and need for their housing. HKS has developed a research coalition to help align with university partners on how to put student experience at the center of the design process. Out of twelve student needs, three of the most foundational needs identified were privacy, socialization and comfort. 🔽 Read on to understand how we have integrated the student experience into our design approach and the impact it has made. https://hks.onl/4eeQYbL Renae Mantooth/Jeff A. “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” - Winston Churchill, 1943 The link between intentional design and society is linear – because while architecture shapes our students, it’s the students that shape our future. And campuses worldwide are sparing no detail, specifying materials for both functionality and aesthetics. These elements breathe life into universities, building community and encouraging academic success. Don’t neglect the details. How are we building (or renovating) the next generation of schools to meet health, resilience and climate targets? Here’s a FREE online symposium designed to offer answers and demonstrate solutions… Sign up below (and share with your local school boards or design decisionmakers.)
The semester might be winding down, but there's never been a better time to learn about how we can support the education of our youth, from preschool to universities. That's why we're thrilled to announce our next event, Academic Performance: A Passive House Schools Symposium. Learn how Passive House educational buildings can help push towards electrification, provide public shelter in extreme weather, create flexible infrastructure to serve the needs of a fast-changing educational environment with presentations from Naomi C.O. Beal from phME-passivhausMAINE, Ann-Marie Fallon from Architype, Richard Lo from Kaplan Thompson Architects, Timothy Lock from OPAL Architecture, and Barry McCarron from South West College. Join us on June 20th from Noon-4:00PM ET for this free online symposium! Evolution of unplanned pathways: an example of how unplanned development and historical changes in key pathways and green spaces can become integral to a built environment layout over time. The Oval and Long Walk at Ohio State University were not included in the original campus design but developed organically over time. As new buildings were constructed, students began creating their own paths across the grass, which influenced the eventual layout of sidewalks, including the Long Walk. The campus was initially designed like an English manor, with pathways intersecting what is now the Oval. These features shape the mental map of the university, guiding movement and serving as key reference points. Their evolution reflects the changing needs and formalization of campus navigation. #wayfinding #navigation #mentalmap #UrbanPlanning #LandscapeArchitecture #SpatialDesign

Community colleges are more attractive than ever—by design and reputation, as we share in our latest #Insights article. A true labor of love, our teams design and develop strategic plans, renovation, reuse, and new building projects that honor these institutions’ standing in their communities, strengthen their ties to area universities and employers, and welcome the broadly diverse population of their students. “We are saying with our actions that, like four-year universities, #communitycolleges also deserve architecture with a big ‘A,’ because the work they are doing is very impactful indeed,” says Omar Calderon, AIA, principal at Perkins Eastman.
