🌐 Costa Rican Legal Framework for AI: A Brief Overview As technology evolves, so do legal challenges, especially with Artificial Intelligence (AI) shaping the normative landscape. In Costa Rica, while strides have been made to regulate AI, more needs to be done to keep pace with its rapid evolution. Key areas of concern include Intellectual Property (IP) and Data Privacy. Costa Rica acknowledges the importance of protecting creators and innovators, but gaps remain in addressing AI-generated IP and data privacy concerns. Local regulations like Law No. 7975 and Law No. 8968 govern data privacy and protection, but international laws such as GDPR and CCPA are also relevant for companies operating in Costa Rica. At Dentons, we're here to help navigate these challenges, ensuring your company leverages AI while safeguarding IP and complying with data protection measures. European Parliament successfully voted on Wednesday to adopt the AI Act, which regional lawmakers have dubbed “the world’s first comprehensive AI law.” It was first presented to the parliament in December and was provisionally approved. The Wednesday vote means that EU legislators have given their approval of the Act, meaning that it will go into full effect in roughly 24 months. Now, only a final approval from the Council is pending, after which the law will be published. The AI Act sets out a risk-based framework for AI. It will have a set of rules and requirements that will come into effect based on the level of risk attached to the use case. #EU #AIAct #Security #Privacy #USA #Canada #News #TechNews #Tech #ITW Image: European Parliament
