Amanda Chard and I attended a Winmark event last week on one of my favourite topics namely how AI tools are being used by legal teams across different types and sizes of businesses. The event is one of the first we have attended as Winmark’s Executive Search Technical Partner for their Chief Legal Officer (CLO) network. Hosted by Liberis, their General Counsel Alexis Alexander spoke along with Catie Sheret from Cambridge University Press, George Eiloart from tech platform Brocaly and Browne Jacobson partner Richard Nicholas. They shared and showcased some excellent case studies demonstrating how General Counsel are already using GenAI for their legal teams. My top three takeaways were: 1. Depending on where people are at in their journey it makes sense to learn from others to get a feel for the features of the various products – allowing a more informed decision on what are potentially going to be useful products for your legal team. 2. General Counsel need to ensure they talk to the wider business to find out what AI products are being used elsewhere. If there are products that will also be useful for the legal team it will be much easier and quicker to adopt them. 3. They also need to think about the “smell and feel of an AI project” and how it will be received by everyone - as this can be the litmus test to decide if you should move forward, as well as getting other divisions from the business involved on a continuous basis for accountability. Overall, GCs want to be spending more of their time on strategy - so if adopting AI projects can free up time to do that, then surely this can only be a good thing? #AI #generalcounsel #legaltech #legaloperations #legalrecruitment #marsden
