With everything else going on I managed to squeeze in a quick talk to the National Academy of Sciences Engineering and medicine with my @lastprisonerproject family Stephanie Shepard , Donte West and Kyle Page. Our panel came directly after the “How to eliminate the black market.” Presentation which was making my skin crawl so we had to set the record straight that the more effective way to help the unlicensed operators transition to the regulated market is to refer to them, to US, as the “Existing community infrastructure.” When you discuss how to “Eliminate” a population it heavily influences your policy outcomes. When you discuss how to incorporate an historically exploited community into a new paradigm, that also heavily influences policy outcomes. Words matter A LOT. They’re how we paint the vision of the world we are co-creating before the brush hits the canvass. Be deliberate, and paint 🎨 something beautiful. https://lnkd.in/ekv8spfm

https://lnkd.in/eZh42CFk Celebrating #Juneteenth is all about communication and acknowledgment. The message of #freedom reaching all people through the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19th, 1865, was a significant moment in history. It took over 2 years for the message to arrive, but its impact was deeply appreciated by all who were finally freed. Luke Timmerman's acknowledgment of #black #leaders in the #biotech industry is commendable. It is an honor to work in an industry that unites humanity in the pursuit of healthier lives and a healthier planet. Being recognized alongside fellow #black #leaders and friends in #biotech like Stephen Abreu, Ted W. Love, MD, and Kenneth C. Frazier Alfred (Freddie) Bowie Rob Perez Rod Cotton Yusri Elsayed, MD, MHSc,PhD Ian Estepan Erik Harris Mel Hayes Derek Hicks BJ Jones Charlotte Jones-Burton, MD, MS Cynthia Mazareas Karen Nelson Jeff R. Deborah Telman Tamar Thompson Chidozie Ugwumba Alethia Young is a privilege. Thank you for shining a light on diversity and excellence in our field. These leaders are doing everything from #CART, #CRISPR, #geneeediting, #ADC, #cancertherapy, #InvestmentBanking, #Patents, #Regulatory, #venturecapital, #privateequity, #CEO, #CFO, #CMO and much more. Like the #juneteenth message it has been a long time coming but it is great to see #diversity grow in leadership roles in the biotech industry. And it is in this spirit of communication and acknowledgement that I shine the light on a some of other #excellent #black #leaders in #biotech like Nolan Townsend, Lacarya Scott, CFA Julian Harris, MD, MBA JULIAN HUSBANDS Kirk Taylor, MD Ian Tong, MD Kaye Foster Henry Colecraft Abasi Ene-Obong, PhD Ken Chenault Jr. Patrick Hines Let's follow Luke's and others lead, and take time today to acknowledge other #excellentblackleadersinbiotech and spread the message of appreciation. And if you don't already you should follow the Timmerman Report, it's a great resource of stories and updates of the biotech industry.
